I think being a teacher at a school or a teacher at Islamic Boarding School or Dayah is the same before working in my office. I have also been a teacher. What we have to build is a cooperative learning attitude among students. Here are some things that need to be done as a basis for cooperative learning models.
The Basic concept of cooperative learning.
In using the cooperative learning model in the classroom, there are several basic concepts that need to be considered and pursued by the teacher. Teachers with their roles as designers and implementers of learning in using this model, must pay attention to some basic concepts which are conceptual basics in using cooperative learning. The basic principles according to Stahl are:
1. The formulation of student learning objectives must be clear
Before using a learning strategy, the teacher should go through the formulation of clear and specific learning objectives. These goals are concerned by the teacher to be carried out by students in their learning activities. The formulation of objectives must be in accordance with the objectives of the curriculum and learning objectives, whether student learning activities are emphasized on understanding the subject matter, attitudes, and processes in working together, or certain provisions. Objectives must be formulated in language and context of sentences that are easily understood by students as a whole. This should be done by the teacher before a particular study group.
2. Complete acceptance by students of learning objectives
Teachers should be able to condition the class so that students accept learning objectives both in terms of personal interests and group interests, therefore, students must be conditioned to know and accept the fact that everyone in their group accepts themselves to work together in learning a set of predetermined knowledge and skills. to learn.
3. Positive dependency
To condition the occurrence of disputes between students in study groups, the teacher must organize the material and lesson assignments so that students understand and may do so in their groups in mastery and ability to understand the subject matter. This learning condition allows students to feel positively dependent on other group members in studying and completing assignments given by the lecturer.
4. Interaction that is open
In study groups, the interaction that occurs is direct and open in discussing the material and tasks given by the teacher. Such a learning atmosphere will help foster a positive attitude of dependence and openness among students to gain success in learning. They will give and receive input, ideas, suggestions, and criticism from their friends in a positive and open manner.
5. Individual responsibility
One of the uses of cooperative learning in learning is that learning success will be more likely to be achieved if it is done together. Therefore, the success of learning in the strategy learning model is influenced by the individual student's ability to receive and give what they have learned among other students. Individually students have a responsibility, namely working on and understanding the material or tasks for their success and also for the success of their group members according to the learning objectives that have been set.
6. The group is heterogeneous
In the formation of study groups, group membership must be heterogeneous so that the cooperative interaction that occurs is an accumulation of various characteristics of different students. In learning such an atmosphere will grow and develop values, attitudes, morals, and student behavior. This condition is an excellent medium for students to develop their abilities and skills in an open and democratic learning atmosphere.
7. Social and positive attitude and behavior interaction
In interactions with other students, students cannot simply apply and impose their attitudes and stances on other group members. In group work activities, students must learn how to improve their interaction skills in leading, discussing, negotiating, and clarifying various problems in completing group assignments. In this case the teacher must help students explain how good attitudes and behavior in working together can be used by students in study groups. These behaviors include leadership, building trust, communicating, solving problems, expressing criticism and social feelings.
8. Follow-up
After each study group completes its tasks and work, it is necessary to analyze how the appearance and work of students in their study groups, including: (a) how the work is produced, (b) how they help group members in understanding and understanding the material and the problems discussed, (c) how their attitudes and behavior in learning group interactions are for the success of their groups, (d) what they need to improve the success of their study groups in the future.
