The Independent Election Commission (KIP) of Bireuen Regency held a simulation of voting and vote counting, in preparation for the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) which include the Election of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Aceh and the Regent and Deputy Regent of Bireuen.
Interestingly, a number of people with disabilities were also involved in the simulation which was held in the yard of the Bireuen KIP Office, Paya Lipah Village, Peusangan District, Saturday (11/9/2024).
The simulation was designed not only as a technical exercise for officers, but also to convey the procedures for voting and vote counting to the public, including the disability community. The Bireuen KIP is committed to presenting inclusive and democratic elections.
The simulation showed the flow of the voting process which will be held on November 27, 2024. Starting from checking the voter list, providing ballots, to counting the votes. The entire process was demonstrated according to election standards.
The event was attended by the Bireuen Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslih), local officials, community leaders, youth elements, and members of the District Election Committee (PPK), as a form of support in ensuring the smooth running of the simulation.
The Head of the Bireuen KIP Technical Division, Safrizal, in his speech said that the purpose of the simulation was to ensure the readiness of the Bireuen KIP in implementing the national agenda of the 2024 Pilkada.
"We hope that this activity can educate all elements of society regarding the correct voting procedures, as well as show that all levels of society, including people with disabilities, have the same rights to participate in the election," explained Safrizal.
He said that the participation of people with disabilities in this simulation was a manifestation of the organizers' efforts to create a disability-friendly Pilkada. Providing facilities and procedures that make it easier for them to exercise their right to vote.
Through this activity, said Safrizal, the Bireuen KIP hopes to increase public understanding, including new voters and voters from the disabled group, regarding the correct voting procedures. So, on the day of the Pilkada, the implementation of the Pilkada can run smoothly.
According to him, the Bireuen KIP also continues to conduct intensive socialization and coordination with election organizers at various levels so that all parties are ready to carry out their respective duties professionally. He emphasized the importance of participation and support from the entire Bireuen community for the success of this Pilkada.
On that occasion, Safrizal also said that the Bireuen KIP had prepared 823 Polling Stations (TPS) spread across 17 sub-districts and 609 villages or gampongs, including one special TPS at the Bireuen Penitentiary (Lapas).
The total Permanent Voter List (DPT) for the 2024 Pilkada in Bireuen reached 316,604 people, which included residents from various age groups, genders, and social backgrounds.
In addition, his party had also sorted and folded the ballots for the Election of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Aceh and the Regent and Deputy Regent of Bireuen. The main logistics are ready. "We ask for support and participation from all parties, so that the 2024 Pilkada will take place peacefully, safely, and conducively," Safrizal hoped.
