Junior High School (SMP) Negeri 5 Juli, Simpang Jaya Village, Juli District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh Province, implemented the Independent Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
This activity was attended by all teachers, education personnel, students, and school committees as a form of support for government programs in improving nutrition and the quality of education.
Head of the Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Junior High School (UPTD SMP) Negeri 5 Juli, Muchlisin, S.Pd.I, M.M., accompanied by the Chairperson of the School Committee, Muzakir Adam, and the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee, Zainuddin, explained that this program is an independent initiative from the extended family of SMP Negeri 5 Juli.
"We want to show that schools do not only focus on academic and administrative matters, but also realize student wellbeing at school so that students are happy to be at school. One of them is the joint meal program in the form of free nutritious meals (MBG) independently," said Muchlisin.
The food menu served also pays attention to balanced nutritional intake, students are given foods containing protein such as eggs and fish, carbohydrates from rice, vegetables and fresh fruits.
"All of these food ingredients are donations from teachers at school," he said.
A total of 120 students were seen enthusiastically enjoying the nutritious dishes that were distributed after the break near noon.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of the Committee, Zainuddin who also serves as Mukim in the Juli Selatan settlement said, maybe this is the first time in Bireuen Regency that a school has implemented the MBG program independently.
"We hope this can be an inspiration for other schools. Throughout being a school committee, SMP Negeri 5 Juli has seen improvements, both in terms of the appearance of the school, the addition of students, innovative school programs and initiatives that have been carried out by the principal and his staff," he said.
However, behind the improvement, there are still major challenges that must be faced by the UPTD of SMP Negeri 5 Juli, namely the hopes of the Simpang Jaya community and surrounding villages for the government to immediately build a school fence.
"Since it was founded in 2007, SMP Negeri 5 Juli is the only junior high school in Juli District that does not have a school fence. This is important for the safety and comfort of students and teaching staff with the hope that the fence can be a special concern for the Bireuen Regency Government and the Bireuen DPRK so that it can be realized this year," he hoped.
He is sure that this school can excel in the future as long as the development of the education sector from the government is also carried out fairly, including schools in remote areas.
"Don't just let schools in urban areas continue to receive assistance, just development and educational facilities," he said.
