A joint team of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) and Wilayatul Hisbah (WH) Bireuen together with the ranks of the Polsek and Koramil Kota Juang, Bireuen, the Bireuen Environment and Forestry Service, Friday (24/1/2025) demolished a number of huts or illegal houses along the fence of the Post and Giro Office or behind the Suzuya Mall Bireuen building.
The demolition of buildings made of used wood, plywood or used zinc, in addition to not having permits, also developed information that there were huts or buildings occupied by underprivileged residents who begged in the Bireuen area during the day. Some of the buildings were occupied by several men opening motorbike repair businesses.
Dozens of Satpol PP and WH members with crowbars, hammers and other equipment dismantled the illegal huts. The goods in the building were wrapped and collected. Meanwhile, the boards and others were loaded onto trucks for temporary security.
Members of the Kota Juang Police and members of the Koramil and employees of the Bireuen Environment and Forestry Service also helped clean up the illegal house.
According to several Bireuen residents, some of the residents of the illegal house work as alms seekers every day, sleeping in the illegal house at night. Every morning, some of them look outside the house looking for alms and come back at night.
When the Satpol members checked the illegal house, there were mattresses, kitchens and other things in very dirty and stuffy conditions. From a number of houses, there were several places used as motorcycle tire patching businesses and there were no beds.
Head of the Bireuen Civil Service and WH Satpol, Chairullah Abed SE told the media crew that before the cleanup was carried out, a notification letter had been sent requesting that the illegal building or house be immediately demolished.
The illegal building, he said, had been occupied by beggars and they slept in the illegal house.
"They sleep here at night, during the day they look for alms. Previously, there were those who slept in front of Suzuya, now it has been filled in so they moved here," he said.
The clean-up, he said, was on the orders of the Acting Regent of Bireuen so that the illegal buildings that looked very dirty and were located in the back alley of Suzuya had to be cleaned up. So the Satpol PP and WH Bireuen teams along with other elements carried out the clean-up.
