GAME FEATURES
King of Avalon is set in medieval England. The game contains sim city like world-building, massive army campaigns involving tens of thousands of soldiers featuring intricate unit management and upgrading systems, alliance building and strategy elements in the style of "Risk: global domination", along with magic-wielding and dragon training aspects for you to get your Dumbledore on to.
WHY THIS GAME STANDS OUT
The game does follow the "free-mium" video-game model, enabling players to make in-game purchases... though this level of personalisation of game content isn't limited to those who pay. The level of personalisation in this game is unique. Features such as "portrait change", "player rename" (see below) add a higher level of engagement with the game by making it possible for the player to see their won likeness incorporated into the fantasy world of King Arthur (now dead) and his knights of the round table.
WHO WILL THIS GAME APPEAL TO?
Not only can you rename generals to your own liking the in-game free content enables regular players to Add custom portraits featuring their own likeness to the military leaders. To my mind, this game is perfectly suited for two sorts of players. The first sort, which I count myself amongst, is the casual gamer who enjoys a quick "click and slash" adventure with a smattering of world-building goodness. The casual gamer, that isn't that keen on playing through years of boring tutorials wasting time to "learn how to play", is well served here. If you enjoy top-down views of battle where you command thousands of troops from the sky like a god without the tedium of round-based gameplay then this game has that on offer.
()
The other sort of gamer this game might appeal to, the polar opposite of the casual gamer... is the zealous tutorial-lord who is happy to swim through tutorials like a duck in water looking to gain every tactical advantage. If you're the sort of gamer looking to bring instant glory and prestige to your alliance this game can be played that way too. Playing for hours one can barely begin to the scratch the surface of the multi-layer aspects of fighting, crafting, up-grading, blacksmithing, evolving, magicking and smiting this game incorporates.
WHAT IS GAMEPLAY LIKE?
The Gameplay contains lush graphics and a level of complexity that is well presented (no clutter) on a mobile phone .
Rather than being overwhelmed by all the possibilities the casual gamer can work his/her way through the game comfortably as the video below reveals.
FINAL THOUGHTS
This game will appeal to a wide audience. It has the extra complexity that uncompromising strategy aficionados crave but at the same time it has the instant playability you'd want should you be playing the game with friends, "netflix and chill-ians" or even internet rivals. King of Avalon is available on all platforms and this real-time MMO is a strong release from Century Games limited. It has it's own discord server for those of you who play well with others.
So whether your the lone mobile phone player, the socially connected discord server player or just a casual gamer lost in the wilderness... this one is worth a look.
