Anthurium is a genus of about 1,000 species of flowering plants, the largest genus of the arum family, Araceae. General common names include anthurium, tail-flower, flamingo flower, pigtail plant, and laceleaf. - Wikipedia
This is a unique plant in that the inflorescence bears small flowers which are contained in close together spirals on the spadix. The spadix is elongated, and beneath it is the spathe, a type of bract which some mistook to be the flower. The leaves are dark green in colour, shiny and variable in shape.
Anthurium can be grown as houseplants, or outdoors in shady spots. They don’t need a lot of water, but they need a high humidity and the soil must be well-draining. Apparently, anthuriums are poisonous due to calcium oxalate crystals in the plants. The sap is an irritant to the skin and eyes.
