Hi friends, after reading around I am interested in participating in an amazing challenge this week. The challenge is titled: "Physical Therapy Intervention: Rotator Cuff Tendonitis" by @ashkhan following the contest link.

Taks 1

From the material provided by the teacher, I learned that Rotator Cuff Tendonitis is a condition that causes inflammation of the tendons in our shoulders. There are 4 types of muscles in the rotator cuff, including the subscapularis, teres minor, infraspinatus and also supraspinatus. Please note that not only the 4 muscles, it turns out that there are several other muscles and tendons that are near our shoulder joint which all make stability and friction-free movements.

Next let's look at what causes rotator cuff tendonitis, but there are several main causes, namely:

  • Because of the use of the shoulder joint too much or too much is done even repeatedly.
  • Apart from repeated use, it turns out that severe trauma is also a cause of rotator cuff tendonitis or sudden injury to the shoulder joint which makes a cause as well.
  • Furthermore, there are also causes of rotator cuff tendonitis due to sports, for example swimming, tennis and other sports.
  • Wear and tear is also one of the causes because it can be related to agriculture around the shoulder.
  • For the last, it may often be the cause of abnormalities in the joints to the bones, which occurs in people with poor ergonomics or posture.

In addition to the causes, someone who has experienced rotator cuff tendonitis also has symptoms, here are some of the symptoms that are often found: The onset of pain and makes tenderness around the shoulder to reach the upper arm that hits it. Other symptoms are also sometimes the onset of swelling and even a reddish color if the tendon is inflamed. It will also make muscle weakness or fatigue that may occur due to reduced strength in the shoulder. The worst thing is that many have even experienced, namely the feeling of a kind of click in the shoulder joint, the sound appears when making movements. Most often experienced is the weakening of the range of motion, perhaps the main cause is due to stiffness in the shoulder area.

Rotator cuff tendonitis has 3 main stages, including the mild stage, mild stage, and severe stage. When in the first stage position (mild stage), there is inflammation and irritation in the shoulder. While in the moderate stage, there will be a click or the appearance of a sound like a break that comes out when making movements involving the shoulder. The last is the severe stage, which according to the name of the stage will certainly be the more severe rotator cuff tendonitis, which will occur a complete tear in the tendon.

Taks 2

In the material has been completely discussed about the diagnosis of Rotator Cuff Tendonitis it can be done in many ways or methods, but what is often done is such as Checking the pedigree of the family affected by Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, will also check the occupation, past medical history, and surgical history. The doctor or physical therapist will then perform a full examination. Followed by tests through X-rays, or ultrasound, and MRI which are all done with the aim of being able to know the condition of joint inflammation, tendon rupture, and damage to our muscles. Finally, there may be arthroscopy, a small invasive procedure to diagnose rotator cuff tendonitis.

A variety of specialized tests will then be conducted to determine the exact diagnosis. Among the many specialized tests are the Neer Test which aims to assess subacromial impingement, the Hawkins Kennedy Test which aims to assess pressure in the shoulder region, the Jobe Test which aims to assess the strength or tear of the supraspinatus tendon, the Speed Test to assess pathology or tears of the biceps tendon, the Yergason trial to also assess pathology or tears of the biceps tendon.

Taks 3

In this 3rd assignment, I will practice 3 exercises out of 4 given by the teacher. The 3 that I took to practice are: Scapular Squeeze, Cross Body Shoulder Stretch, and Walk Slides.

  • Scapular Squeeze

In doing this Scapular squeeze exercise it is quite easy which as in the video above I took a sitting position where at that time I squeezed the scapula. Please note that this kind of exercise intends to strengthen the trapezius muscle and rhomboid muscle. For more details on how to do it, see my video above well.

  • Cross Body Shoulder Stretch

To do the shoulder stretching exercise with the criss body movement is also very, very easy, where I just stand straight and lift one hand straight on my back and point it at the other hand, while the other hand just helps with a little pressure. And vice versa. I do them for 10 seconds each. The purpose of this exercise is to be able to repair muscles that are shortened to lengthened due to pain compensation. For more details, see my video above well.

  • Walk Slides

The wall slides exercise is also very easy to do because it is like a person wiping the wall by doing up and down, and it is done by bending the legs. The purpose of this exercise is to increase the range of motion of the shoulder and with this exercise will also reduce pain. For more details, let's watch my video above carefully.

Taks

After doing the 3 exercises above, I feel the following:

Scapular Squeeze
For me personally, this kind of exercise has definitely helped me improve my posture and make my upper back feel more stable. As for healthy individuals, it is certainly more effective in improving posture awareness, more so if it is someone who often slouches. As for Rotator Cuff Tendonitis patients, of course, this kind of exercise makes the scapula muscles without burdening the shoulders.
Cross Body Shoulder Stretch
For me personally, this kind of exercise can certainly reduce the feeling of tension in the back shoulder and increase flexibility and more relief. Perhaps the benefit for healthy individuals is that it is great to continue to create flexibility and prevent stiffness in the shoulders. If done by Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Patients it is possible that it will reduce mild pain and help improve range of motion.
Wall Slides
For me personally this kind of exercise really helps open up my shoulder. As for individuals to be healthy, it is very useful so that it can be a warm-up and maintain the range of motion of the shoulder. If performed by Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Patients it may be effective in rehabilitating the shoulder with gentle and controlled movements.

Thank you for your attention and apologize if there are any mistakes.
