OVERVIEW OF SOCIAL MEDIA

One of the greatest technology in the world is social media as it helps for easy communication. Previously, humans write letters and send them to a near post office within the location of the recipient. Most times, it takes much time and many fees before it gets to the post office, also, in the post office, the letter can be misplaced or dangerous by the officer in charge.

However, current social media has addressed these issues. So, I can say that social media was the missing ingredient globally that will make communication to be easy, have fewer fees and very fast.

Nevertheless, there are several social media globally and each has various ways they provide service. We have centralized social media such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Discord, and so on. Conversely, we have decentralized social media such as Steemit.

Centralised social media

Centralized social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc, are created by the central authority and they control it as well. This means the users in this social media platform do not have full power over their account, rather the account is completely regulated and governed by central entities.

Although in this kind of social media, the users have access to operate on their account but must observe the presentations and standards of the central authority because failure to do so, the account can be prohibited or suspended. Hence, on these social media platforms, the users observe no resistance to censorship as the central administration controls the affairs of the account and there is no state of freedom of expression.

Decentralized social media

Decentralized social media such as steemit are created by the central authority but do not have full custody of the account. This means that this social media platforms allow users have full power over their accounts.

Thus, we can say there is resistance to censorship in this social media since the users have complete independence of expression, also the content created by the users can not be deleted by the central authority.

I believe we have understood the slight difference between the centralised and decentralized platforms but the question now is which of them is my favourite social media. The truth is that everyone wants to be in control of their account, so I will go for the decentralized social media precisely Steemit.

I definitely know so people might ask why I choose steemit when Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other centralized social media have been existing and popular. The truth is that centralized social media such as Facebook, Twitter and so on have gained much ground globally and are well known and popular. But what entices me in steemit is that I receive rewards when I create quality content and the security is much better than the centralized social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Nevertheless, let's check out the social media app I use the most just as the question demanded.

The Social Media App I Use The Most Is WhatsApp

WhatsApp is a social media that is only focused on contacts. It's not like Facebook where people can ask for a friend request but it's only based on the contacts. Perhaps, to succeed in life we need people around us. That's WhatsApp prompts numbers previously saved to display on our WhatsApp contact. Although in most cases, the other user can have your contact and once they send a message, WhatsApp notifies us we can save it as well.

However, every day, I come in contact with new people of different characters, beliefs, mindsets and languages globally it can be Face to face (F2F) or online. So, We exchange contacts for better dialogue as well as to keep in touch.

I haven't seen a day I missed on this social media either I chat, voice call or video call with my friends. I enjoy the video or voice call especially now that I'm far from my family and friends. This is one of the features I like about this platform. The truth is that I'm not a chat freak or ogre.

The time I often used this social media is during the night that's when my friends are less busy, and then we chat. Nevertheless, I consider this social media as my most used because of the meetings I have with different groups as well as personal chats with friends.

Here, on WhatsApp, I have some contact with my follow steemians and we chat frequently. I could remember the last time I broadcast about Steemit on my WhatsApp and received some private messages from friends who showed some interest and joined.

Also, on the WhatsApp platform, I educate and direct them on how the steemit platform works. If they have any challenges that I know especially that concern the steemit platform, we solve them via this social media. This means via WhatsApp I often tell my recruit on steemit how it is being operated which I clarify every single time.

To sum it up, I would say this social media known as WhatsApp is so effective as it is secure and safe. This means the messages exchanged between two users on this platform are protected against the intervention of an external body or intermediates. Only the two users involved in the chat can see the message and no one can view your friend's contacts just like on Facebook where you can access the account of the user.

Steemit As A Social Media media Platform

Just as I said, centralized social media such as Facebook has gained ground globally, and also, has treated users well for the prior year which is nice. But there is a missing ingredient which has made people now turn away as a result of some irrelevant content and ads. Well, Facebook users are still devoted but the concentration has dropped down and most people are now interested in substantial rewards from their content.

Currently, the steemit platform has provided the perfect remedy which Facebook and other centralized social media lacked to some extent. A genuine steemian will agree with me that ever since they joined the steemit platform their life especially financially, in reasoning and writing has changed tremendously including mine.

Steemit is a decentralized social media platform that rewards steemians known as the Authors for creating plagiarism-free quality content. This platform has a considerable community manner and accepts people for their quality content. I think steemit has a potential much more than all other social media platforms.

Ever since my inception into the platform in October 2020, my life has improved positively. I have enhanced my reasoning and writing skills. Also, the idea of learning how to trade cryptocurrencies came when I came across this platform.

To be honest, writing words more than 300 words was a big challenge for me. I could remember when I joined the platform newly, I always visit the Wordcounter

to check if my content is up to 300 words, especially when writing a contest that indicates that as one of the rules.

But guess what? I can write more than 1000 words. I don't longer visit the Wordcounter to check my content if it has reached the required words needed. Currently, I can write from my head and reading other content here, enable me to improve as well.

Previously, creating content was a difficult task now I can do that. I never had the idea of learning how to trade crypto but the idea came after participating in #steemitcryptoacademy. This is to say that the Steemit does not only help me financially but improved me to be a content creator and to be a cryptocurrency trader.

Indeed, the steemit platform has rendered a great help in my life. Well, for better clarification let's check out the advantages and disadvantages.

1. EXPANSION OF KNOWLEDGE

You will agree with me that not many users know much about the crypto market before coming across this platform but with the help of this platform especially the #steemitcryptoacademy community, many users can testify to the positive effect that this platform has changed their lives in the areas of cryptocurrencies.

We receive different lectures from the Professors on what the crypto ecosystem is all about. For instance, in the #steemitcryptoacademy community, we have several Professors like Prof. @kouba01 and many others impacting us regarding cryptocurrency.

However, some users now have a basic understanding of the Crypto market. Some steemians have acquired crypto-trading skills on this platform. Also, some users have learnt how to prepare some food at the #steemfood community and so on which has rewritten many lives here including me.

2. INCREASE USERS FINANCIALLY

The truth is that no talent is a waste on the steemit platform. The platform encourages talent by rewarding them when they create quality content free of plagiarism. As we all know, there are various communities on steemit, so, you can write quality content and you will be rewarded lucratively for that.

Believe me, many users here get their passive income in the steemit. Some users have active business from the cash they got from the platform. Though it might sound funny it's true. I receive my passive income from steemit and it has helped me a lot to solve some problems.

3. IMPROVE WRITING & CREATIVITY

In life, being Creative is very important because it pays well to be creative in every aspect. Writing involves creativity and to be an honest writer or blogger you are most creative. Thus, one of the important aspects of Steemit is that has made users be improved in writing and creativity. For example, Ever since my inception in steemit, I identified that my creativity and writing level have improved.

4. EMPLOYMENT

To me, steemit serves as employment to several users. As you can see writing quality content and curating content enables some users to earn money. As such, we can classify it as employment or job opportunity. Also, selling the tokens can help users to live a standard life.

DISADVANTAGES

The only problem I have with this platform is the wallet aspect. Anybody can check the wallet of other users though they can't access the tokens but can see the exact amount of coin the person has. To be honest, it can lead to envy and once envy comes up, it associates with evil thoughts such as malicious or cyber-attacks.

Regulation

It is clear that on Facebook and Twitter, there are several regulations overseeing the platform which users must accept, as such has made the users not have control over their accounts. Also, no freedom of expression. Any user who fails to follow the regulations of Facebook or Twitter will be suspended or banned. Conversely, in steemit, such does not exist. Every user controls their accounts.

Security

The security of Facebook and Twitter is nowhere to be compared with the steemit. By things, I make use of these platforms, and from my knowledge, I think the steemit account is well secured and safe. The password is not something one can memorise so easily but Facebook and Twitter accounts are not that secured and safe and could be attacked or hacked.

Reward good writers

Just as I said, in the steemit, you receive rewards for writing great content (author) or by curating content (curator). I joined the platform 2020, and I can testify to what I have achieved from the content I created but since 2011 & 2017 I joined Facebook and Twitter respectively, and I haven't received any reward for the content I created.

Conclusion

Steemit platform is a new and innovative social media that reward good writers and great thinkers as such, I definitely believe that this blockchain has a bright future and will go a long way. Writers never had the chance to receive rewards on some social media like Facebook and Twitter.

It might not be popular unlike Facebook because lots of people aren’t aware of the blockchain but once it's well known, it will supersede Facebook. Remember, this is my point of view.
