Hello Friends of Shine with Steem, it's great to participate again in SEC-S20W5 / small scientist. Having 5 children and 3 of them are still small category, makes me happy to join in this week's theme.
As usual, I will invite 3 of my children to try to be a child scientist, they are Zahra a 9-year-old girl. Salman a 7-year-old boy, and Faris a 5-year-old boy. They are My Little Scientists for today, there will be one that we show you all, about a straightforward experiment that can be done very easily.
This is the third photo of the Little Scientist that I have, it's nice to get acquainted with all of you.
Where did this experiment come from? |
---|
The source of the experiment or experiment that we are going to carry out today is my simple knowledge as a teacher who also carries out the practice of this activity with my students at school. This is a simple experiment that is often done in various schools because, in addition to being easy to do, the materials needed are quite simple and safe when used.
What is This Experiment for? |
---|
This experiment is a form of knowledge to know Archimedes ' law in Physics, which is also often applied and used for the manufacture of air balloons, floating bridges to submarines. In addition, there are still many uses of Archimedes ' law that are applied in everyday life, and used according to their functions.
What is Archimedes ' law in Physics? |
---|
Archimedes ' law is a physical law that states that if an object is inserted into a liquid, then the object will experience an upward force equal to the weight of the liquid being inserted or moved. Archimedes ' law also explains the relationship between gravity and upward force that occurs in bodies introduced into liquids.
Well, after I explain a simple thing in words that are easy to understand by my little scientists, then we will immediately try Archimedes ' law together so that my little scientists can see in real what I just explained to them. For these experimental materials, only 4 supplies are needed that are around us and are safe to use. Such materials are :
- 3 pieces of glass as a container for experiments and comparisons.
- 3 chicken eggs.
- Salt to taste.
- Enough water.
Trial and Experiment Steps |
---|
My kids were excited enough to start the experiment, they got together to do it, and I guided them to do it and observe what happened with the experiment.
1️⃣First, fill prepare 3 glasses of water and arrange them closely together as shown below.
2️⃣Second, put the water in a glass, and make sure the contents of all glasses are the same size. As below.
3️⃣Third, enter the chicken egg into each glass that has been filled with water, be careful not to enter in a hurry. As below picture.
4️⃣Fourth, I told my children who were young scientists to observe all the glasses that had been filled with water and in which there was an egg. My children also say "that there is no difference when all chicken eggs are put into glasses containing water". With simple language, I explained that" this happens because of its density or the egg is denser than water", the little scientists listened very well to what I explained.
5️⃣Fifth, I asked one of my children to put 3 spoons of salt that we had prepared earlier in the second glass and stir it, and I also directed them to notice the difference between the three glasses, after waiting a while by making observations.
As a result, the egg in the second glass that has been added 3 spoons of salt into it, lifted to the top, but the egg suddenly 'floated in the water'. Even scientists wonder why this happens. , with a sentence that is easy to understand, I said to them that: "that salt is put into the water, will change the weight of the water or the water period will increase". So Archimedes ' law also applies to the second glass, which is a body with a density smaller than the mass of the liquid, it will not be able to sink in water.
6️⃣Sixth, then one of my other children directed me to put a few more spoons of salt into the third glass before the egg in the third glass was still submerged because the mass of the object was greater than the mass of water that had not been mixed with salt. After the salt is put into the third glass is much more than the salt in the glass to 2 and observed, then the egg in the third glass, the egg contained therein become floating. And with the explanation I said at the beginning, my children or young scientists already understand that the mass of the liquid that is water has increased heavier because the water has been put in salt with a much greater amount of the second glass.
With the experiment and the questions when experimenting, my children finally easily understood what Archimedes ' law was, they already knew the ratio of the three glasses filled with water and the egg was different, with some changes made and the reactions that resulted from these changes.
In the end, this is the experiment and also the experiments carried out by my little scientists in our participation in this interesting SEC-S20W5 theme, hopefully what we do will be fun for those of you who read it and see it, as my children were very happy when experimenting today.
Finally, I say a big thank you to all of you, see you again with my next posts. Best regards to all of us.

You have taught your children a very good science activity, which will develop the intelligence of these children. Your children were very curiously surprised when the eggs floated after adding salt to the water. The post shows how happy they are to see this scientific activity.
Good luck ❤️.
