Yesterday was an absolute delight for me and my kids as we had the chance to play some traditional games with their friends between the ages of 4 and 12, except for my daughter, who is just 2. We played in our frontage, the sun was shining so brilliantly, and sounds of laughter and cheers filled the air. We played more than 7 different types of games, but I'll show you videos of 4, and these include tug of war, round games, clapping games, and Rock, paper, scissors. The kids thoroughly enjoyed each game but most especially the round game I called the lion and the goat 🐐 this particular one brought a totally set of joy and excitement. Friends stay tuned as I'd like to share how we played them, along with rules and unforgettable moments.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE TRADITIONAL GAME YOU SELECTED? IN YOUR OWN WORDS EXPLAIN HOW TO PLAY:

Among the games I've chosen are tug of war, round games, clapping games, and Rock, paper, scissors.

How to Play Tug of War:

To play tug of war, I divided the kids into two teams, team boys and girls. We didn't use sturdy rope in our case, but the frontiers interlocked their hands. They used their slippers for line demarcation and pulled the opposing team across the line.

Rules:

  1. Boys stay behind their designated areas, sane with girls.
  2. No lifting the slippers off the ground.
  3. If the interlocking hand unlocks, the game stops, and both teams reset.

You can see I've made a few changes here; instead of using sturdy rope, the kids interlocked their hands, and we used slippers for demarcation instead of rope.

Characteristics:

  • Teamwork: This game encourages teamwork among kids. They have to work together as a group to win.
  • Strength: The game tests their physical strengths, which makes it a fun workout.
  • Competitive Spirit: It makes the kids challenge themselves in a friendly way.

The moment we enjoyed most was when my daughter determined to join the boys; she said we would win! She was determined o, and she held her brother and pulled him with all her might, haha. I can see the spirit of teamwork in her! And the boys won and were rejoicing.

How to Play Round Games:

For this game, the kids stood in a circle, held their hands, and sang a particular song; at a particular point, they involved their legs, as in the first video.

The second-round game we chose brought back so much of my childhood memories. The lion and the goat. Kids circle one kid who played the role of a goat, and another kid will run around the circle, playing the role of a lion, finding a space to jump in and eat the goat, but no way. Immediately, the kids that play the goat role will run out of the circle, and the one who plays the lion's role will pursue. Others will shout it will eat, it will not eat, and they will form a circle and be ready for the one who ran out to enter when he ran back so that he'll be protected from the lion.

Rules:

  1. Everyone must sing.
  2. Every kid must participate in the chosen task.
  3. The game continues until each child has had a turn.

Characteristics:

  • Creativity: It allows kids to express their skills, singing and running.
  • Inclusiveness: Every kid has a chance to participate.
  • Rhythm and Movement: It enhances the kid's coordination by moving to the song.

The kids thoroughly enjoyed this game, they were cheering one another, and they really opted to imitate the animals they represented!

How to Play Clapping Games:

Clapping games are simple; it is rhythm-based games that involve clapping and chanting, as seen in the above video. Two can play this game, singing a particular song, which at some point includes dancing.

Rules:

  1. Kids must clap in rhythm; if someone misses a beat, they’re lost.
  2. The game restarts with the last child who clapped correctly.
  3. New claps can be introduced after each round.

Characteristics:

  • Coordination: This game improves kid's motor neuron skills
  • Social Interaction: It encouraged bonding among kids.
  • Memory and Rhythm: It helps kids with memorization skills with rhymes.

How to Play Rock, Paper, Scissors:

The kids choose between "rock" (a fist), "paper" (Open palm), or "scissors" (two fingers) and must simultaneously show. The result will determined by the typical rules, which is the rock will beat the scissors, scissors beat the paper, and the paper, in turn, beat the rock.*

Rules:

  1. After 3 rounds, the best will win the game.
  2. Everyone must understand the game and rules.
  3. You can't change gestures after showing them.

Characteristics:

  • Quick Decision Making: The game encouraged strategic decision-making among kids.
  • Brevity: Playing it quickly makes everything lively. *
  • Fair Play: It promotes the spirit of sportsmanship.

There was a joyous sound as the kids exclaimed their choices! They loved it, and it was memorable.

Yes! The kids extremely enjoyed themselves, and they wanted to play traditional games all the time, I'm glad that this will soon replace watching TV. The air was filled with their laughter, teamwork, joy, and cherished moments. They still talk about it, playing the videos I made over and over again. Their joy reminds me of the simple pleasures that come with traditional games like these. It was one of the most beautiful days for them!

The Best Moment I Experience During The Game:

The best moment was during the round game activities, and one of the kids who played the lion role just flew like a lion and caught the one who played the goat role. Everyone was laughing so hard and praised his skills, and the kids continued talking about it.
