Hello stemian friends, Wednesday October 30, 2024 is an exciting day for me because on this day I will meet my students who take part in extracurricular Scout activities, of course I really miss them because I can only meet once a week, nothing but what makes me miss is when I can do many activities that are educational, entertaining and fun for them or for myself.

🙇‍♂️ What techniques and strategies do you use to strengthen self-esteem and eliminate stage fright in children?

One of the best groups, full of enthusiasm and confidence in displaying their group's cheers.

This week I will invite them to create a "group chant," what is a chant and what are its benefits in education. A chant is a song that is done together in a compact and energetic manner, a chant can be accompanied by clapping, dancing, or patting other body parts.

A group of boys were displaying their cheers with movements as if they were shooting something, their group was very compact.

The chant itself is very useful for children in order to prevent boredom in learning because it is entertaining, after students feel entertained then they will be ready and increase enthusiasm to continue the next learning material.

In particular, at this week's meeting I will focus on encouraging a sense of stage fright in children, increasing self-confidence in children, practicing group cooperation. I believe all of these goals can be successfully accomplished by encouraging them to do a group yell and this has been a special strategy that I have implemented while teaching children in order to increase their confidence and eliminate stage fright.

Why groups? I think that by doing it in groups, it can be more effective and the expected goals can be achieved, besides that by doing it in groups, students will not feel embarrassed because they do it together with other students, doing it in groups can encourage other students who are less confident and still experiencing stage fright to be brave and perform in front.

groups facing each other, they show their best cheers.

Technically, I give them 25 minutes so that all students can make Yel-yel with their group members, I emphasize to them that any group that is not excited and inactive will be given a penalty in the form of jumping frogs 15 times. Of course, this threat can make them practice more seriously because they are afraid when they receive punishment.

I also explained that later each group would face each other, while some other groups would become spectators. The main purpose is to encourage students' enthusiasm and increase their confidence when facing in front of many people.

🕺How did the children feel during the activity? Did you feel comfortable participating?

I greeted their group and they felt shy.

If you look at all the videos I shared you can understand how children feel participating in this activity, of course children are very happy with everything in the form of a race or competition.

Children are always eager to be winners, they don't want to lose to the other groups in front of them.

In addition, the children were also entertained and laughed at some of the group members' silly songs, and were amazed when they saw other groups singing in unison and doing movements together.

Personally, I would have loved to have participated in such an active and energetic group. But since this was a competition between groups of children, I couldn't participate.

But overall, I really enjoyed the hard work of each group who had tried to make their yells unique and creative.

🤷‍♂️ Did you manage to overcome your stage fright or on the contrary, were you very nervous?

I think all the groups have managed to perform their group yells well, although some groups have made mistakes, such as forgetting the verses of the song, not compact in doing the applause, but I think it is a natural thing.

Because the most important thing in this activity is to encourage students to dare to perform in front of other students, have confidence, and eliminate nervousness when standing in front of a crowd.

Thus this article, I hope it is useful and inspires all who read it.I also invite you to participate in this contest. @ifatniza @patjewell @irawandedy
