When a person compliments you, how do you feel? In other words, if someone said; you look beautiful, or you are so smart! or you're such a fine gentleman, would you feel great? I bet you would! We all love being complimented.
It feels good to be called beautiful or cute or handsome or smart. It makes you feel awesome and relevant and appreciated. But at times, it lifts our ego and causes over confidence.
I think that being complimented because of a kind act of service, or even for good character, brings more fulfillment in our lives. Can you remember how good it felt when you helped another person in need? Or how good it felt when they said, " If it hadn't been for you, I wouldn't have made it"? or "this is the first meal I have had in a long time", or "thank you, the world is a better place with people like you".
I have experienced both, and I can only say, I would rather be complimented for a act of good service than for looking good. At times we pay so much attention to how we look, that we forget about our attitudes. We don't want to be seen as 'goodies', because goodies are 'lame' or 'weak'. But being good to those around us makes us different, and unique. It makes us feel useful, appreciated. It feels good.
So what will you choose, will it be cuteness overload, or being kind and humble? Food for thought. Chaó Adios.
