They are a waste of emotion and time - examinations. They are so unreal I do not know why and how they came to become relevant to learning and education - or anything in life for that matter.
Before you jump in to oppose this proposition, join me on this question and answer review session. When was the last time you solved a problem by applying an examination question or answer? When was the last time you remembered an examination session with genuine smiles playing on your lips? Beyond passing the examination, what other use was your preparation for any examination you have ever taken?
Now tell me, is it not from experiences - good and bad - that you learnt life changing skills? Is it not by doing and getting involved that you perfected that which you are reckoned with now? Is it from examination? Is it not by acting out a part, engaging, falling and rising that you travelled as far as you have come in life generally?
If examination were human, it would be charged with severe assault for the enormous emotional trauma it visits on its victims before, during and even after they encounter it. And that trauma does not bring out the best in anybody. Even the best performers in any examination will do much better without the fake 'fire-brigade' environment of examinations. What is gained by putting people through that negative energy?
We study to write examination and want to quickly forget the examination - including whatever we appear to have read to pass that examination. The fear and harassments associated with examinations cast a negative shadow on whatever small knowledge gains made and therefore is a ready candidate for forgetfulness.
Stop examinations and the world will not stop. In fact the world will move faster and better.
