They call her a "Dilettante" !

She had the perfect combo of a glowing face and an innocent smile, the best I had ever seen ( whenever I met her , I think the same thing about her)

So, how does it feel to be one of the best gynecologists in the city? I asked her while sipping the coffee she had served me.(Coffee was not as good as I was expecting)

Your question is a bit superficial, she replied with a gentle smile and continued, I don’t count success by being among the most famous docs in the town. In fact, what I truly enjoy is my real work. Like today, I handled a complex case, a young girl who suffered from postpartum hemorrhage due to an unknown reason internal bleeding wasn't stop. To diagnose the problem, I opted for surgery, identified the source of bleeding, stitched it carefully, then closed her up and save her life. Interesting, isn't it?

She tried to explain her case to me, but I was stuck at postpartum hemorrhage .(What it could be ?)
She smiled again. You look confused, she said becoz of my weird expression which I wasn't able to hide.
Yes, I didn’t fully understand it, but I can feel the depth of your expertise, I admitted.

Tell me one more thing , how can you be truly satisfied or pleased with this kind of work? I mean, doesn’t it get heavy on your nerves?" This was my biggest curiosity about doctors, so I asked her.( The blood ,bones , knives, blades , how could anyone feel comfortable and even enjoyed this kind of work)

Not at all.i love my profession as much as an artist could. You only understand it when you deeply connected to your work, she answered calmly.

So, this is why you are a true master of your "art."

Her laughter filled the room. Now this is ironic, she said. I think I’m an expert. Despite all my success and the reputation I’ve built in my field, people still judge me. She suddenly stopped."Judge you?" I was surprised. But why?

Because I have only one child "a daughter". And you know how ridiculous our society can be about an only child, especially when she’s a girl. I've treated countless patients, yet more than half of them are more interested in my personal life. I’ve overheard them many times, whispering behind my back "The poor doctor has only a daughter". Some are even more ruthless, saying I should first treat myself to become a mother of a son. They connect my professionalism with the number of kids I can produce; otherwise, I'm a dabbler. Her giggles reflected her inner restlessness.( The coffee was getting colder like ambiances around it.)

So, Mehwish, what do you think? Am I a master or a dilettante? she asked, smiling ,with a shine in her eyes.

I wanted to say so many things to her, but I felt she didn’t need to hear them , after all she was not a dilettante. We both continued sipping our coffee, but the topic had changed.

At this i recall Aisha bint Abu Bakr, an intelligent woman without any children but the scholarly figure who:

  • narrated 2210 hadith
  • took part in politics
  • interpreted the Quran with the knowledge she learned from her husband(to whom she couldn't give any child)
  • served to spread Islamic law(along with male comrades and the one to open first fiqh school.

All this but with an empty womb.

This society is so cruel to judge others for the things out of their control like marriage, children, and rizk.

Women should lift other women.

A thousand thanks and respect for this text!

By the way, I tried to find out who made this work of art. The link leads to a photographer who photographed and edited it - very well - (like thousands of others worldwide...) I don't yet know who created the original sculpture. Do you perhaps know more about this? I would find it very interesting...

It looks like you took the hands on approach with story and wrote intriguingly zesty.

Excellent writing! Keep at it.
