“My first stage appearance”

Hello everyone.

It’s me @nmarh here again. I hope everyone is doing great. I am grateful to @dove for organizing this contest and I’m glad I had the chance to participate.

Since childhood, I’ve always dreamed of standing in public and speaking. Whenever I watch shows and see people standing on stage either giving a speech or singing or dancing, I always envied them and wished I was the one.
In high school during my final year I decided to have the courage to do what I’ve always dreamed of. There was this norm that every final year class will compete against each other in a debate competition every Friday during our morning assembly. I nominated myself as part of the participants and my friends in class also gave me the courage to go ahead.

On the day of the competition I nearly backed out because of the crowd. The whole student population including the principal and vice principal were seated. Nervousness was written all over my face and I was scared when my class was called on the stage to have our seat. I nearly tripped when I was walking on stage. What really got me was when the mic was passed on to me to introduce myself. I stammered a little when I was introducing myself. I was so anxious and I could feel my stomach turning. I could even feel my palms sweating. The battle of the two classes began and our opponents were in charge. I realized that it was up to me to get us back on track. When it got to my turn, I took the mic and stood on the podium.

I started reading directly from my script because I was scared to look at the crowd. But as time went on I got better and walked away from it and the words started flowing from my mouth like a river.
When I ended, the whole room was clapping and some even stood and were shouting my name. That was when I knew I had done a good job. I don’t know how, but I was able to end with a very excellent performance even though I started on a bad note.

As I stood on stage speaking, I was recalled that my class had high hopes of me even my teacher told me to go and show them who I really am. That is when I knew that I had the potential and I needed to let it out.

Today, I am able to stand in front of large crowds and give speech and also I do a lot of presentation in class.
