What's That?

Greetings, steemers!

I'm excited to participate for the first time in this cool contest.

I just joined the Dream Steem community, I hope it is enough to start participating, but even if it isn't, or if I'm late because of the time zone, or anything... I'll do it for fun :D

Dream Steem Contest: Story 2

This contest consists of finishing a story that has been previously started by the organizer of the contest, in this case @dove11

This is the first part of the story, for those who are reading this and want a bit of context, and for those who want to participate:

What's that?

James got anxious and decided he had to examine the strange thing he was looking at. He had to make sure he was not hallucinating, and discover what exactly was the weirdest thing he had seen in his life.

However, as anxious as James was, he stopped for a moment to think rationally. "If that thing was dangerous, if I disappeared leaving no trace, if I get murdered," he thought... "at least I had to let someone know what I was up to before anything happens to me." He grabbed the cellphone and left a message for Brandon explaining the situation, and his resolution.

Having James waited for half an hour for Brandon, he grew more anxious, and headed himself towards the mysterious thing. "What's that?" was the only thought he could hear inside his head.

As he was approaching, he could smell a not-so-pleasant odor similar to sulfur. "What's that?" Ugh! he said to himself. After getting back for a couple of masks and some other things he considered he could use for caution, like gloves, a little tool box, a flashlight and a gun, he had the courage to get himself in front of the mysterious thing this time.

"What's that?" James exclaimed, as he had some public to talk to. "What on earth...?"

The thing James was seeing was not a car, it was not a stone, it was not an airplane, or a helicopter, and it was not a military base... but somehow it looked like it was all of those things mixed together, like something out of this world.

When James entered the thing, either he was now used to the heavy sulfur-like smell, or he had so much adrenaline that he did not care anymore about it, but he got into it like it was his living-room.

The source of the pink light was a kind of flight control dashboard out of control, or so it looked like. James did not need his flashlight at all since this thing's bright was intense.

James searched for any life form inside the thing, but there wasn't any. It seemed like there had been someone there, though; there were old papers spread all over the place like they had been just checked out by many people, considering the mess.

The aspect of these papers was really intriguing because they were too old to even exist! James could not believe he was holding those papers without they becoming dust. And there was more... He couldn't understand a word any of those weird old papers had written in! They were written in a language that James could not recognize. "What's that? seriously", he thought.

In the blink of an eye, James had downloaded several mobile apps that could help him solve at least the language mystery through image recognition. After a few minutes, he got this: It was Sumerian language. "What?"

After hard translation work, James was able to read a few lines of at least three of the papers: One of them seemed to be the properties of gold, another one was an epic poem about gold, and the other was either the coordinates of a gold mine or a gold sanctuary.

Suddenly, he heard the voice of Brandon crying: "James, it's me, just leave this place silently, please." When James came out to see what was going on, he saw Brandon being pointed at with a strange gun by someone who was hiding behind him. James obeyed, and in no time, the strange living form got into "the thing" to turn it on and disappear forever.

THE END
