EMBARRASSING

We all have experienced moments in our life that we felt completely embarrassed. One such moment happened to me recently at the supermarket with my little daughter. I went there to buy a few necessities. That day I had to face an unforgettable experience, which made me fully embarrassed.

It was an ordinary day and I went there with only enough money to cover my essential items. I assumed it would be a quick and simple trip, so I brought my five-year-old daughter with me. I went to the grocery store and purchased necessities such as rice, milk, bread, sugar, and other products for everyday use. In the meantime, my daughter's eye was drawn to a toy on one of the shelves. It was bright, colorful, and expensive. She took it in her hand and came towards me, with a big smile.

“Mom, can I please get this toy? I want it!” she said, holding the toy tightly.

I took a deep breath and gently replied, "Today, I don't have enough money to spend on extra products. I'd buy that next time for you."

But this explanation didn’t satisfy her. She thoroughly demanded that it be given to her.

“But, Mom, I want it right now! "Please, please." She pleaded, then forced me.

I tried to stay calm and kneeled at her level to explain everything again. I explained to her that there were times to buy toys, but this was not the moment. I tried to refocus her attention by pointing out other interesting items in the store. But she did not listen to me; instead, she bothered me to buy the same.

Suddenly, she sat in the center of the supermarket, crossed her arms, and frowned.

"Mom, I won't stand up until you buy this for me." Not only that, but she began to cry out, calling for the toy.

When others saw me and my daughter, they looked at us, raising their eyebrow. Some were whispering to each other. I could feel my face turning red from embarrassment, I wanted to get away from that place.

"Why don't you just purchase it for her?" one person asked, trying to help. But I did not want to encourage them because it was not good. I knew my financial limitations for the day, and I wanted to adapt my daughter's way of thinking. I spoke softly to her and tried to keep her calm. But she didn’t change. Then I let her weep as she wants.

Finally, she realized there was no point in crying, so she stopped. Even though we moved to the checkout without the toy, my embarrassment did not go away. I kept worrying about how others must have judged me.

Once we arrived home, I hugged my daughter and explained why I couldn’t buy the toy that day. I explained to her that sometimes we have to wait for things and that we do not always receive what we want. She listened to me this time and understood a bit better. Finally, I felt relief since I had taught her a valuable lesson about life.

Looking back, I understood it was one of those incidents in which children express their emotions freely, unaware of the circumstances surrounding them. I got embarrassed at the time, but it taught me patience and helped her understand her limitations.

Life is full of such situations, and while they may be uncomfortable at the moment, they will help us grow as parents and people.

I think we have all gone through the same situation you narrate with our children, they gradually understand our reasons for not pleasing them all the time. We should not worry about what others will say, each of us have reasons for our actions. As children grow up they will understand, but we must explain to them with dedication, affection and with practical examples that will not create trauma. Your story is very well told and structured. Best regards.

I feel your situation and it was a good decision that you didnt buy it because she cried. The baby must understand how to obey what every decission of the parent because foods are important than toys. Not all the time we can provide them.
