AT DAWN |

Jephthah took the little things he had left and headed out of the hotel. This was his second trip from the hotel that morning.
It was an early morning in January. A very cold and chilly winter morning. The streets were dead silent and covered in white snow.
Despite cloaded in thick warm clothings, Jephthah could still feel the cold obviously because it was a winter morning but then his anxiety added to it.
He had woken up the moment the clock stroke twelve. Well, he wasn't at sleep to begin with. The thought of what would become of the hotel when the sun rose completely terrified him and stole the sleep away from his eyes.
As the thoughts came rushing in filling him up with guilt. He clenched his first in resolution. He wasn't doing anything wrong by saving himself.
If he woke his friends back at the hotel, they would create a commotion that might bring the danger upon all of them sooner. He was just doing what was best... for himself.
It was their fault for not listening to him in the first place. He had insisted that they didn't embark on this trip but the had only laughed him to scorn saying he was terrified of fairy tales.
They were the stupid once for underestimating the power of the uncertainties of this world. At the first touch of dawn they would finally believe in these tales but too bad because by then it would be way too late.
With this new conclusion, he felt less guilty as he headed to the car. Putting all his belongings in place, he ignited the engine and it roared giving life to the dead silent street.
He smiled to himself in satisfaction and then drove off. Glancing at the things he took, he nodded to himself. He had taken all his friends' valuables besides the won't be able to use it anymore because they would be far gone in the underworld at the strike of dawn.
He had been so entranced in his thoughts that he had failed to notice the unfamiliarity in the road. The moment he noticed it, all his anxiety that had faded away was now back and even worst.
Had he taken a wrong turn? He attempted reversing back and tracking his way back to the hotel but the more he tried, the more lost he realised he was.
His head was messed up and his hands fidgeted on the steering. Pores of sweat formed on his forehead. Even the chilly cold winter morning was not enough to keep him from heating up.
He didn't know how long he spent trying to find his way back but by the time he checked his watch, it was 6:01am.
Shuddering, he raised his head up to behold the sun rising through his windshield.
He was doomed!
This was the end for him!!!
