Welcome to my post. I hope you all are doing well by the grace of Allah Almighty. This is my participation post in this astonishing contest of Steemit Crypto Academy "Steem Blockchain Age". It's going to very interesting. After a research Steemit Blockchain was launched on March 24 , 2016.
At this time , Steemit Blockchain is approximately 7 years and 4 to 5 months old. We can calculate the age of Steem Blockchain by the date of the last block produced minus the production date of the Genesis block according to the contest organizer. There are so many more things to learn. Let's dive into this topic.

If we see the literal meaning of this word Genesis is "Begining , Origin or creation". Block are place that store data and information. In other words , A blockchain is made up of a chain of blocks attached, therefore, the very first block in a Blockchain is known as the Genesis block.
It is called a Genesis block because it is the genesis (beginning) of every blockchain and other blocks are linked to it.
The Genesis block is considered the origin of every blockchain, hence it is not affiliated with any prior block, whereas, all the successive blocks are connected to it. It is considered a grand patron of the blockchain or rather the founding block on which the blockchain is built.
Genesis Block of Steem blockchain:
As earlier stated, every Blockchain is built from the Genesis block, hence the Steem Blockchain isn't excluded. To explore the Genesis block of Steem, below is a step-by-step guide.
STEP 1: Open the Steemworld.org website, on the homepage click on Block Explorer.

STEP 2: In the appearing box, input the digit 1 and click okay to gain access to the Genesis block. Because 1st block is known as the genesis block.

STEP 3: All the information of the Genesis block, such as a Timestamp, Block ID, Witness etc. will be displayed as seen below:

What is the last block produced? Determine the total time of the Steem blockchain, using the production date of the Genesis block and the production date of the last block. |

To check for the latest block produced, I opened Steemyy.com and scrolled down to the Blockchain fact. As of the time of making this post, the most recent block produced on the Steem blockchain is #77513807.

To calculate the total time of the Steem Blockchain, we are given the formula below;
Total time of Blockchain = 3 × Timestamp of the latest.
This is because it takes the Steem Blockchain 3 seconds to produce a new block. Hence below is the calculation.
Time to produce new block = 3 seconds
Timestamp of latest block (TLB)= 77513807
Total time of Blockchain (TTB) = TLB × 3
TTB = 77513807 × 3 sec = 232,541,421 sec
TTB = 232,471,380 ÷ 60 sec = 3,875,690.35 minute
Since 60seconds = 1 minute,
= 232,471,380 ÷ (60 secs × 60 mins) = 64,594.8392 hours
= 232,471,380 ÷ (60secs × 60 mins × 24hrs) = 2,691.45163 days
= 232,471,380 ÷ (60secs × 60 mins × 24hrs × 365days) = 7.3738 years ~ 7.4 years
I have calculated the total time of the Steem blockchain that is 7.4 Years using the production date of the Genesis block and the production date of the last block.
We can determine the total time ( Age) of Stee Blockchain by using this formula :
Where , A is Age or Total time of Blockchain.
Tⁿ is Timestamp of the latest or Head block. And T¹ is Timestamp of the Genesis Block.

Downtime of a blockchain merely means a duration in which the blockchain wasn't working adequately as expected and this can occur due to various causes. This however comes with some problems such as not functioning properly, inducing delays in transactions, no/limited access to the platform or funds, etc. Some reasons for its occurrence are following:
There are many reasons why downtime can happen to any platform or blockchain which include;
Periodically, every system undergoes an overhaul and the blockchain is not excluded, so when the blockchain undergoes an overhaul it can induce downtime.
Massive traffic on a blockchain can also cause a downtown as so many users are sending commands and transactions at the same time. Hence, this can slow down its efficiency rate, and cause downtime.
System failure is another factor that can cause downtime. When mining nodes experience system failure, it can disrupt the functioning of the blockchain which can lead to downtime.
- Blockchains are run and operated on nodes, and each node makes use of power to stay active and running, hence if power is cut or affected, it can cause downtime in a blockchain.
- When vulnerability arises in a blockchain, it becomes open for cyberpunks and hackers to attack the blockchain, which can prompt downtime.

Oh yes! Like every other work system, the Steem blockchain has experienced some downtime in the past and as I'm a user since August 2021, i have encountered some of them as shown below.
A few months back, the Steemit community confronted some issues with the TRX reward system, which saw users not being able to receive any TRX rewards even after claiming these rewards.

First, an update was released by the Steemit team that the ratio of TRX rewards has been halved, meaning if we claim 1 Sp we will get 0.5 TRX. This update led to downtime on the platform as users couldn't post or carry out the usual functions.
I think the TRX reward persists to date, as we are still yet to go back to the original functioning where once you claim your rewards, they are added to your wallet.

Then, there is another experience with commenting, as when users comment on a post, it is noticed that not all comments are shown in the comment section of that post which users suspect to be due to an upgrade.

Steemit Blockchain Age , it's broad and interesting topic. I have learned a lot by writing this topic. I have learned about Genesis Block. Then I I have shows last block produced and calculated the total duration of the Steem blockchain.

Genesis block is very important for all of us to understand because the platform at which we are working we should also know most common information about the platform and Genesis block is the first initial block that creates after a blockchain form s so I agree with you that Genesis block provide us break information like timestamp, witness signature etc.

Saludos amiga, muy buena forma de explicar esta información. El bloque Génesis es el primero de todos y a partir de él se derivan los otros, que se relacionan entre sí, construyendo así la cadena de bloques.
Ciertamente, los bloques de steem han presentado inactividad en algunas ocasiones, debida a fallas, ataques de hackers, o simplemente la cantidad de tráfico.
Recuerdo muy bien esa fallas con respecto a los TRX y los comentarios, son buenos ejemplos para explicar el tipo de inactividad que pueden ocurrir en el sistema.

Friend, I was impressed how you did the calculations, it's an account that seems simple but it's mathematical and it's not my forte hehehe... but the truth is that you learn a lot in the academy.
