Describe the Leased Proof-of-Stake (LPoS) consensus mechanism. What are the differences with Proof-of-Stake (PoS)?

Leased Proof-of-Stake (LPoS) is a variation of the Proof-of-Stake algorithm created exclusively for the Waves network.
As previously stated, Leased Proof of Stake is a consensus mechanism used by the Waves blockchain in which users lease crypto tokens to a node that will operate as a network block creator. The more tokens a node stakes, the more likely it is to be picked to generate the next block and earn the associated reward, and token holders can cancel their lease at any moment.
Smaller token holders, who would normally be unable to participate in the block creation process in a standard PoS system, can combine their assets and boost their chances of obtaining a piece of the network's transaction fee. Users can search around for the best node for their investing strategy, as certain nodes may offer higher rewards.
LPoS protocols are best suited for networks with high technical requirements, such as those that demand a full node capable of authenticating on-chain transactions. This consensus mechanism incentivizes smaller users to support the most productive validators in a transparent and long-term self-serving manner, rewarding the best-performing nodes.

This consensus process is similar to DPoS in terms of net effect. LPoS token holders, on the other hand, can directly borrow and lend assets to partake in the block creation process themselves, whereas DPoS validators are chosen by the top ownership votes of other network members.

How it Functions

The goal of LPoS is to overcome the problem of "property qualifying" in traditional PoS, which prevents users with inadequate balance from staking and earning new coins. As a result, centralization occurs.

Any network participant can send their coins to validators and receive a percentage of the profit as part of the LPoS process. The coins are still in the user's wallet, but they can't be used, transferred, or swapped in this situation. The rental agreement can be terminated at any moment. Renting coins is advantageous for validators since it enhances their efficiency and, as a result, their chances of receiving a reward.

This method allows you to earn coins with a minimal stake, but it also renders the network vulnerable to centralization: validators can lease so many tokens that they can effectively control the network.
