What will happen if you vote before "5 mins age of a post" & after "6 days 12 hrs age of post" in Steem Blockchain?

If you vote a post during the first five minutes upon creation. You're bound to lose some curation rewards or better still, not gain 100% of your accrued curation rewards as according to the crypto professor @sapwood. These early stages of creation are known as Reverse Auction. Therefore, upvote made during this period don't give 100% rewards as some of the rewards will return back to the reward pool.
Similarly, If you vote a post after 6 days and 12 hours from creation had elapsed. Your upvote worth wouldn't be worth 100%. As 6 days, 12 hours is the maximum time of a post at which an upvote offers 100% value. Anything after that results in a linear regression / decline. The upvote value in respect to a particular value becomes less and less as it approaches the 7 day post expiration time. As this point, all upvotes are worth 0.
I.e
Let's imagine an hypothetical situation where my full upvote value with full weight is worth $50
If I upvote a post at 6 days, 12 hours age then the post would be worth $50 (full value, full weight)

Upvoting a post at 6 days, 15 hours full value and full weight wouldn't give as much value. In this case my upvote would give $37.5 (75% value at full weight)

At 6 days, 18 hours of age. A full upvote would give $25 ( 50% value at full weight)

Upvoting a post at 6 days, 21 hours full value and full weight would give $12.5 (25% value at full weight)

Following the regression which occurs every three hours after 6 days, 12 hours of post creation. At 7 days an upvote from me (full weight) would give $0 (0% value)

How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain?

To get access to such information we could employ the use of one of the steem apps developed by @steemchiller steemworld

Access your dashboard here
Look for any post you've authored to discover more details

here's an example of one of my posts

Screenshot_20210313_064804.jpg

To discover how much of the rewards have returned to the reward pool. Go to 'payout returned'.
In this post a total of $0.003, which is 0.02% of the total rewards has returned to the reward pool

Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation rewards?

A curator could earn more than his upvote value as curation rewards. It all depends on the timing and time of upvotes and whether or not the post gains traction. For example, if you vote a post after five minutes of creation and afterwards the post gets visited by a whale. You're entitled to an higher curation reward.

I.e

Taking @sapwood's calculation as a case study

PT= Post Payout at the end of 7 days
P0= Post Payout before voting
P1= Post Payout after voting
[Source](

Assumption
if I'm the first voter
If the post gains traction

Let's say I visit a post where the post value is $0 and then an upvote from me gives a $1 value.
So as per the formula P0= 0 and P1= 1
(Because my upvote changed the payout value from 0 to $1)

Finally, let's assume the post receives votes from the steem curators and other whales over the 7 day post voting window and eventually has a value of $49 at post payout.

In this example highlighted
PT = $49
P0 = 0
P1 = $1

I can discover the
(1/2)* (√49)* (√1-√0) = $3.5

In this scenario. I'm entitled to $3.5 of curation rewards which is 350% of my upvote value.

Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward?

I'd also have to explain this process using the steem world app.
Firstly, head over to steem world to access your dashboard i.e steemworld.org/@doppley

Navigate to curation rewards, click the sub-section 'coming rewards' and hit refresh (as displayed below).

Screenshot_20210313_062658.jpg

When you find the post deemed as suitable. Click the pie chart icon located at the leftward part of the screen

InShot_20210313_063611063.jpg

It's automatically filtered in order of vote weight. You'd want to change that order to timed by clicking voted after right at the top.

In this post "lighting up creativity". I made an upvote of 83% weight giving an upvote value of $0.01 at 15 hrs 36 mins 3 secs upon post creation putting me in the 25th voting position with a curation reward of 0.019

What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?

The role of curation is better content discovery can the overemphasized. The activity of finding, collecting and organizing contents across the steem blockchain enables one discover contensi/ posts that's should be deemed as "having value". Such posts can then be promoted for better visibility. In the case of the steem blockchain, such promotion is done by resteeming and upvoting.

It also helps in fishing out harmful or plagiarized contents

It helps in dishing out incentives to content creators, voters and everyone else involved in the curation process. Hence it's self rewarding.

Facilitates and encourages the creation of posts with value on the blockchain through the system of rewards.

Conclusion

I've done my research and tried to tackle the homework task for this week. I'd leave the assessment to the professors.
Thanks to the steemit team for this wonderful learning opportunity once again. It's been nice so far, I'm forever grateful.
Thanks for reading my write up and thanks for your support

Thank you for attending the lecture in Steemit-Crypto-Academy & doing the homework task-5.

Perfect.

Upvoting a post at 6 days, 15 hours full value and full weight wouldn't give as much value. In this case my upvote would give $37.5 (75% value at full weight)

Similarly, if you upvote at 6 Days 13 hrs age of a post, your vote value will be 91.67% of $50= $45.83

In this post a total of $0.003, which is 0.02% of the total rewards has returned to the reward pool

That's correct.

Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation rewards?

  • Time of upvote(be an early voter)
  • Position of upvote(preferably before a whale's vote, or at least the follow through votes after you should be bigger than your vote)
  • First voter's Band($0-$1) in a post.(if you remain in that band, you can gain 100% curation reward or more even on moderate-quality post)

Thank you.
