Making of Pumpkin Pills
Women artisans from different villages of Kahalu upazila of Bogra are busy making delicious pumpkin pills made of pulses. In winter, the women of this region have made alternative income by making pumpkin pills. At the same time, it is silently contributing to the rural economy.
Pumpkin pills are the name of a delicious dish. This dish brings different flavors with different vegetables. Almost all classes of people are attracted to pumpkin pills. However, no exact information is available as to when this pumpkin pill was made and how it was named. Pumpkin pills, once a hobby, have now provided employment to thousands of women.
Preparation Method
The women craftsmen of Kahalu upazila of Bogra spend their busy time in making this delicious food pumpkin pill in winter. These delicious pumpkin pills are widely available in the markets of Kahalu Upazila i.e. Bogra district and the surrounding districts. The main ingredients for making pumpkin pills are masakalai and khesari pulses. The pulses are first dried in the sun and then broken and cleaned and soaked in water for 3 to 4 hours. Then, from dawn to dusk, the women craftsmen start making pumpkin pills by grinding the pulses on the stone floor. After making pumpkin pills, it has to be dried in the sun for 1 to 2 days. After drying in the sun, if the food is suitable, it is sold in different stores in the market.
