Hey there everyone, this is @prakhar9675. And this is my first homework post of professor @sapwood.
In this post, I will try to answer the questions asked by @sapwood
Homework Task
(1) What will happen if you vote before "5 mins age of a post" & after "6 days 12 hrs age of post" in Steem Blockchain? (Include your own experiences/Examples)
(2) How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain? Include screenshots (Hint- Steemworld.org)
(3) Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation rewards?
(4) Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward? (Include relevant Screenshots) (Hint- Steemworld.org)
(5) What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?
This is the homework given by @sapwood.
So let's try to find out answers.
What will happen if you vote before "5 mins age of a post" & after "6 days 12 hrs age of post" in Steem Blockchain?
We all know that on steemit blockchain, author writes his/her blog and that perticular blog based on its quality is upvotes by curators. And whatever is the reward, half of it goes to author and other half of it goes to curator.
But it's not always the case.
There is a term called general voting window. Which is from 5 min age of the post to 6 days and 12 hours age of the post.
So when one post within the 5 min age of the Post he will lose a part of his curation reward. And this reward Is returned to the reward pool. It is called reverse auction
This loss in reward is based on the age of the post. One will lose 100 percentage of its curation reward if he upvotes a post when the age of the post is 0 min and will lose 0 percentage of curation reward when the age of the post is 5 min.
Same thing happens when the age of the post reaches 6 days and 12 hours
When a curator upvotes a post when the age of the post is 6days and 12 hours, he will lose 0 percentage of his curation reward. When he upvotes a post at the age of 7 days, he will lose 100 percentage of his curation reward.
The loss percentage decease (till first 5 min) / increase ( after 6days 12 hours) in a linear manner. This means in a same interval, you will lose exact percentage of the curation reward
How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain? Include screenshots
To check how much reward has returned to the reward pool, you will have to go to this link
And then in address bar, you will have to write @ of the author.
Like my @ is @prakhar9675. So if you want to see about my post, you will have to go to www.steemworld.org/@prakhar9675.
And you will see a interface like this.
And there you will scroll down and tap on a section named posts
and then select your post for which you want to see this. Like, I am selecting a home work post of professor yohan2on.
And then tap on this option and you will see a whole chart for this post. And from here you can see after how much time who upvoted this post. And how much reward has returned to the reward pool.
And you can see, for this post 0.22 percentage of curation reward has returned to the reward pool.
And the value of this 0.22 percentage is 0.000 USD.
Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation rewards?
So as we discussed, some part of the curation reward may be returned to the reward pool and the curator may suffer loss. But in many cases, a curator gets more than 100% of his curation reward.
For example, if a curator upvotes a post after the age of 5 min duration ( which is reverse auction time) and that same post is upvoted later by many curator then the first curator may get more than 100% of his curation reward.
Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward?
To get to know about your projected curation reward,go to this link and then in the address bar, type your @.
And below the post section, you will see a section named coming rewards. Tap on that and then tap on curation reward
For example, I upvoted a post of professor besticofinder. And you can see whole details of it. After how much time and after how many people, I upvoted that post.
And you can see my projected curation reward is 0.028 SP
If you want to see, who else upvoted this post, click on the pie chart options at the left hand side. And you will see a interface like this.
And you can see after how many people you upvoted that post.
What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?
If a author makes a really good post and a curator finds this post and see the goodness of the Post, he will upvote it. And when a post is upvoted at the early age, it is visible to other curators. And when more and more curators see and upvote the Post, it is listed on the trending page.
And when the post is upvoted by many curators, the author get more reward. And this encourage other authors to make good post.
So upvotes are really a great things to encourage author to post great posts.
