A blockchain bridge, which is often referred to as a cross-chain bridge, joins two blockchains and enables users like you and I to transfer cryptocurrency between them.

That's very true about blockchain bridges, the first thing I think brings about their development is the lack of interoperability but with the bridge now, there is cross-chain communication between blockchains for exchange of tokens and value. Security is one of the limitations of the bridges now which I know will be improved on in the next few years.
