SILENCE, WHAT KILLS FASTER THAN SICKNESS

I bring you lessons from two staple foods in Nigeria, namely, the yam and the maize. Some of us may not know that these food materials in their raw state are also alive like humans, and breathes in their own ways. They are also living things. That is why they both can germinate and grow into new plants when they are sown under the correct atmosphere. They however react very differently when man attempts to deprive them of their lives by throwing them in the fire (a way of making them ready for his hungry belly).

As for Mr. Yam, he is always a gentleman that dies silently. Why should I shout he says, man is wicked anyways, he’s never going to save me. So it dies quietly and dies very badly. And sometimes, due to this its quiet attitude, man forgets it in its affliction, and it gets completely burnt. It is wasted.

Maize on the other hand, is a direct opposite of yam, it never keeps silence in fire. The moment man throws it into the fire, it begins to shout (pop) for help. Its pops are sometimes loud and frequent enough to wake a sleeping man. It never assumes like yam that man would not save it from its affliction. Hence, it rarely get burnt, but comes out of the fire with a golden yellow color, a nice flavor and an excellent taste.

We must therefore learn from maize not to keep silence in our sufferings in life. Silence kills faster than sicknesses. And it is often said that a shut mouth is a shut destiny, hence, you must learn to use your mouth the right way. You must learn to speak the right words to your situations because words are powerful. With words, the world was made and it is written in my Bible, that life and death lies in the power of the tongue.

In other words, what you say, is what you get but when you keep silence, your problem might keep you silent forever. Learn to speak to your challenges. Learn to tell your God about them. Your mouth is not just for eating and drinking, it can mould your life. Be silent no more! Be positive, even today.
