Bible Reading: Acts 27:1–44
A terrible storm interrupted Paul's journey to Rome, too. Despite unfavorable sailing conditions, the centurion who was under custody of Paul and the other prisoners who sailed wisely with him decided to leave Fair Havens. (Vv. 9-12). The warning of the apostle in verse 10 probably based his own judgment on present circumstances.
But God had sent an angel who assured Paul that he must stand trial before Caesar when the weather was as unfair as Paul suspected. The angel also said to Paul that God gave him the life of the sailors with him graciously (v. 24). Paul's trust that God would fulfill His promise helped to encourage the sailors in fear. But when the ship was attacked, the soldiers decided to kill every prisoner so that they could not escape (v. 42). The intervention of the centurion prevented the soldiers from implementing their plans. Without loss of life, everyone reached the shore.
Note that God has not prevented Paul from passing through the storm or even the consequences of the bad decisions of other people. He preserved Paul, however, so that he might achieve the goal of God. What storm do you have to face today? Look at God to take you.
