"The joy of the Lord is our strength." What exactly does this mean? Does it mean that we will never be weak or that we will never be sad? We are not affirming or denying that our forces are sufficient to overcome adversity —because there will be adversity—; we are affirming that we have support, the hand of the mighty God is on us making us as capable as we are brave. Which means that what we could achieve before is now even easier to do; and what we could not do now is achievable and that, because we have joy.

The joy of the Lord perhaps refers to “the joy of knowing the creator and taking care of him”; That is why we understand that there is joy in his presence, because it is what this presence transmits to us, it is what it symbolizes for our mortal lives in search of eternity.

It is not about imagining that the Lord is with us, by our side or in our house; It is not about imagining but about being sure that the one we do not see makes an appearance in our lives. It is that faith that makes us feel safe and it is the same faith that fills us with joy, therefore, we understand that our joy comes from God, as well as our strength.

So, is there room in our lives for sadness even with the presence of God in our lives for joy? Certainly there will be adversity, and certainly there will be sadness, because Jesus Christ himself told us that in the world we will have afflictions; But in the midst of anguish, our consolation is the joy that the divine presence of the Most High gives us. "The joy of the Lord is our strength."

"When my anguish increased, your consolation filled my soul with joy."

“El gozo del Señor es nuestra fortaleza”. ¿Qué significa exactamente esto? ¿Significa que nunca seremos débiles o que nunca estaremos tristes? No estamos afirmando o negando que nuestras fuerzas sean suficientes para vencer la adversidad —porque habrá adversidad—; estamos afirmando que tenemos apoyo, la mano del poderoso Dios está sobre nosotros haciéndonos tan capaces como valientes. Lo que significa que, lo que antes podíamos lograr ahora es incluso más fácil de hacer; y lo que no podíamos realizar ahora es realizable y eso, porque tenemos el gozo.

El gozo del Señor hace referencia quizás a “la alegría de conocer al creador y tener su cuidado”; es por eso que entendemos que hay gozo en su presencia, pues es lo que nos transmite esta presencia, es lo que simboliza para nuestras vidas mortales en busca de eternidad.

No se trata de imaginarnos que el Señor está con nosotros, a nuestro lado o en nuestra casa; no se trata de imaginar sino de estar seguros de que aquel que no vemos hace acto de presencia en nuestras vidas. Es esa fe la que nos hace sentir seguros y es la misma fe que nos llena de gozo, por tanto, entendemos que nuestro gozo viene de Dios, así como nuestra fortaleza.

Entonces, ¿Hay espacio en nuestras vidas para la tristeza aun teniendo por gozo la presencia de Dios en nuestras vidas? Ciertamente habrá adversidad, y ciertamente habrá tristeza, porque el mismo Jesucristo nos dijo que en el mundo tendremos aflicciones; pero en medio de la angustia, nuestro consuelo es el gozo que nos da la divina presencia del Altísimo. “El gozo del Señor es nuestra fortaleza”.

”Cuando en mí la angustia iba en aumento, tu consuelo llenaba mi alma de alegría”.
