He stepped out of the tricycle,
"after you" he gestured to her. She looked up at him, at the seat and the passenger inside then she opted to sit in front with the driver. He wondered why she would prefer sitting there when he could see from the crease on her forehead she didn't like there.Well it's her choice, he concluded.
" I wonder if it's their right to sit at the end of the vehicle" she muttered to herself
Last week when Sarah hurried to pick up her sister-in-law from the park, she'd met with this same situation. Only that the man said he'd alight a few distance from where she'd been picked up; she acquieced but he was lying. He was headed for the same park she was and it would be okay if she didn't have to bear his smell, it was too repugnant, too obnoxious. She sat with her back straight, her neck stiff, her nose twitching, willing the morning breeze to help her situation.
Anthony had watched a woman thrown out of a tricycle because of its sudden swerve, his sister almost had a broken leg by one, and she was actually walking. So he took it upon himself to allow any female he rode with to sit inside. Even while walking down the road, he'd always assume the role of a bodyguard. It came to him naturally.
Sarah would have none of it. She was going to pay for the little comfort she could afford now.
"I'll alight here". Anthony gestured to the driver.
The vehicle came to a halt and he paid his fare. Sarah stepped down from the front and joined the other passenger sitting behind.
Anthony arched his brow and she glared at him with pouted lips.
"Why are you looking at me that way?" He asked
She glared more, her eyes boring a hole through his head and looked away.
"What's your problem woman?"
"You". She said flaty.
He looked stunned. The driver handed him his change and before he could say anything, the vehicle sped away.
There in lies the problem; our truest desires often misunderstood. Our truth often not perceived to be one either. Perharps there's no problem at all; Perharps we assume too much; these assumptions limits thinking and foresights. Maybe that in fact is the problem or no.
