In our walk with God, God expects that we grow in knowledge of Him. This in essence is to help build our inward man- character to conform to the image of God so we can have a sustained victory.
Reading Passage:
2 Peter 1:3-11, NIV
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Going through the bible lane, we can tell and analyze that so many people who in the scripture are being praised for their success is not only because they had a talent which no one had but because there character made them different from all other people who had talent.
Skills are beautiful, talents also, but you see, the virtue of faithfulness excels all these. Being a faithful person comes first. After all what is good about distinction in work delivery without discretion in character? Diligence without discipline can be disastrous.
Faithful men may not necessarily be men with first class brains. Intelligence is good, so is brilliance.
Why much scandals around some men and women of superlative achievements?
Often when you see a man at the very best of his career and suddenly some women are popping up here and there to talk of stories that bother sexual abuses by same man well respected globally for great feats in different areas of life endeavor, you stop to wonder.
Faithful men are people of character and good conduct. Such people (if they are Christians) that will not make the unbelievers to speak evil of Christ and His church.
While trusting God to endow us with talents, we must yield ourselves to allow Him to prun the excesses of our character.
