The story narrated in John 21:3-12 contains some important lessons for those who don't want to live in failure and frustration.
From this story, we see that our Lord Jesus Christ can decide to be funny sometimes. Asking a group of disappointed fishermen whether they had food was a dose of amusement from the Lord Jesus in order to change the depressing atmosphere of failure that had covered the disciples.
When the Lord Jesus asked the disciples if they had caught any fish, He was also making jokes about them with His question in the light of the fact that Peter and his colleagues were no longer supposed to be in the fishing business.
You will remember that in Luke 5:10, the Lord Jesus had already said to Peter, in the presence of some of these disciples, that from that instant he would be catching men and not fish. Peter and his team failed their business because they were operating on the wrong side of their destiny.
This instruction the Lord gave to Peter that he should cast his net into the deep should not be seen as symbolic, because there was nothing at the other side of the ship. Immediately Peter and his colleagues throw their net on the right side as instructed, they caught a lot of fish. When you work on the wrong side of life, getting nothing is inevitable. The Lord’s way is the right way of life.
The Lord is still leading men to the right side of life presently through His word and the instructions of the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, for you to always stand on the right side of life, you must be consistent in studying the Bible and make sure to listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice, directing and leading you into all truth.
However, having encountered the right side of life, it would be very bad to leave it for the wrong side of self-will. Jesus hand over the work of the ministry to Simeon Peter, but he and his colleagues went fishing instead.
What did Peter and his colleagues get out of their efforts? Nothing! However, the loving Jesus Christ went ahead to prepare a tasty breakfast for His lovely disciples.
There is no sort of failure on the Lord’s side. I urge you to come to the Lord’s side in complete obedience to His Word, and disappointment will become things of the past to you and your generation.
