Salt And Sodom

Salt adds taste to the food that we may otherwise avoid eating, firstly; and secondly, salt prevents food from going bad such that ancient sailors used it as a preservative to eat the meat they couldn't otherwise eat in the sea.

A good person's life is like a salt that does two things: merely by being alive, 1) the person adds something of value to and enriches society while 2) preserving important moral values and preventing them from corruption.

The metaphor, you're the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13), means that you're an ambassador of heaven on earth.

God said to Abraham that the city of Sodom will be spared if it has fifty righteous men in it. For the sake of the righteous men, God is willing to spare the city of Sodom from destruction. (Genesis 18:20-32)

The number of righteous men required to withhold God's judgment is fifty. Abraham kept pleading with God and reduced that number down from fifty to forty-five, then thirty, then twenty, and finally ten. Not even ten righteous men were to be found in Sodom.

Ambassadors act in the capacity of the government they represent, and they don't act on their own. They'll also be recalled and removed from the land they'd been sent to before the government they represent goes to war against that land.

Abraham's relative, Lot, was told by two angels to flee from Sodom to Zoar. Lot and his family members were instructed not to even look back. Lot's wife disobeyed and looked back at Sodom, and she turned into a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:24) when God rained down burning sulfur on Sodom.

If the salt loses its taste, then it is good for nothing other than to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. (Matthew 5:13)

The inhabitants of Sodom tried to sodomize two guests of Lot. According to the story, the two visitors turned out to be divine persons who blinded the attackers and then instructed Lot to leave the city before they destroyed the city for its vice and corruption.
