Mark 16:17

“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with NEW TONGUES;”

Jesus made the necessity of tongues incontrovertible by the above scripture.

The Apostles spoke in tongues even as Paul exclaimed "I speak in tongues more than them all"

But in some Churches , Assemblies and Ministries of God "Tongues" are forbidden , excused on myriads of reasons .

This has brought confusion in the midst of the Body of Christ .

Because we all know in parts , can we begin to subject this to scriptural discussion to the benefit of this community??

Mark 16:17 is not found in the better manuscripts. Paul talked about tongues:

(1 Corinthians 12:28-30 NIV) And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. {29} Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? {30} Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues ? Do all interpret?

It's obvious that the gift is not given to everyone. And that's assuming that it's even given today.

Thanks Indeed @borncat for your kind comment on my post .

But in furtherance of my quest for true knowledge of the word of God and our expectations, please permit me to ask again as these scriptures tends to throw spanners into our submission.

Mark 16:17

“And these signs SHALL follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they SHALL speak with new tongues;” ..... Jesus Christ .

Question : If the gift of tongues is selectively given , why did Jesus EMPHASISED by "SHALL " that ALL that believes (the REDEEMED) are to capable to speak tongues ???

This scripture is not found elsewhere??

Are we not admonished that none of the word of God should be jettisoned?? Are we told to selectively do away with some for any reason??

1 Corinthians 12 :31

But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Question: Since we are required to COVET all the best gifts why can we covet for the gift of tongues as well since Jesus has already mandated us to speak tongues !

Besides the above , the gift of tongues is very necessary for us to manifest true SONSHIP of God and to live the spiritual life occasioned by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us .

How would you advise us on this sir ??
