We have reached the 120th edition of "Art and Writing", and for this week, I bring you a talented Danish painter named Anna Ancher.

This outstanding artist was born on August 18, 1859 in Skagen (Denmark). Her real name was Anna Kirstine Brøndum Ancher.

From a very young age she showed talent for painting. She studied drawing in Copenhagen.

In 1880 she married the painter Michael Ancher. From this marital union her only daughter Helga Ancher was born, also a painter.

Between 1888 and 1889 she was in Paris and studied drawing in the studio of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes.

The style of this Danish painter was colorful. Her favorite subjects were the daily life of single women, housewives, fishermen and children.

In 1913 she was awarded the Medal of Wit and Art.

Anna and her husband lived mostly in Skagen, where they bought a house in 1884. This house is now a museum that opened to the public in 1967 and is run by the Helga Ancher Foundation.

Anna died on 15 April 1935 in Skagfen (Denmark), at the age of 75.
