You look bad girl what's wrong?

The maid holding the piles of sheets looked as if she had seen a ghost. She hesitated for a moment but then blurted out: I've seen death.

She was visibly upset and almost dropped the starched linen on the tiled floor.

Watch out!

I'm sorry. It was a terrible dream. I woke up with a start and couldn't sleep anymore. It was such an awful sight. Do you believe me when I say that I even saw the murder weapon?

The girl looked upset.

The murder weapon?

She nodded

... it was a kitchen knife just like the one the cook had at...

The sound at the door startled the maid and stopped.

Two more and the cupboard will be traded in.
There are two sheets too few that came back from the laundry...

The maid looked alarmed and visibly swallowed when the little madam, as she secretly called her, stood in front of them.

What are you talking about? Gossiping again?

No, miss, we are counting the sheets and tidying the linen cupboard.

The child looked in suspicioun at the two maids who were way older her but of a lower rank.

Better hurry up instead of dawdling like this. Come on, my bed isn't made yet. Hurry up or I'll tell Mom.

The child turned abruptly and stomped out of the room.

Quick. Let's make her bed, we'll look for those sheets later.

At night in their room, the maid whispered
Marie-Anne you won't believe this.
What I saw in my dream
The kitchen knife
Those two lost sheets
It was all in my dream.

Marie-Anne the little mistress
She's a monster
You know it's true
The kitchen knife
Covered with blood
It's underneath her mattress.

If she blames us...

My dream was clear
I told you
It's awful
I saw Death
Wrapped in sheets
In the corridor.

Two women came in
One of them screamed
She fainted or is...

Stop no word what if she hears you?

Marie-Anne...
She shouted Cane
The brush in his chest...
It didn't cause his death
The kitchen knife did
The same one as underneath her bed.

Hush, sleep now. What if she hears you? I will sit against the door till it's time to wake up. It's all just an awful dream like you said. Sleep now.
