It is a former Cold War installation, it is called Camp Century and was known at the time as the city under the ice, it was built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1959 by excavating a network of tunnels, a network of tunnels of 1.2 km, they were interconnected, they housed accommodation, a hospital, a laboratory, a chapel, a library, recreational areas, everything.

It had capacity for 200 people and was powered by the world's first portable nuclear reactor. The facilities were abandoned in 1967 and are now covered and sealed by 30 meters of snow. It remains there, it is a relic of the Cold War for the future. , for future archaeologists in Greenland.

The base was built flush with the original surface and is now buried, meaning it has snowed enough for the ice sheet where the base is located to increase by 30 m, so at least in that part of Greenland, the ice sheet It has increased, it has not lost thickness, it has gained it, let's hope it continues because it is not a good idea for Greenland to thaw.
