The closest black hole to us

Animation of the system surrounding the black hole

A new black hole was discovered in our galaxy with a characteristic that makes it very very special, it is by far the closest one found to date, which allows it to be seen, among many quotation marks with the naked eye.

It is called HR 6,819, it is located just a thousand light years from us in the constellation of telescope, it has a mass four times greater than that of the sun and about 30 kilometers in diameter, it is accompanied by two stars that can be seen with the naked eye from the southern hemisphere, so that way you can locate the position of the black hole in the sky.

To put the relevance of this finding into perspective, you should know that to date around 20 black holes have been discovered in our galaxy, mostly thanks to the powerful x-rays they emit, but it is estimated that since the formation of the Milky Way many more stars have collapsed into black holes.

A total of 10 million to be specific, the problem is that they are smaller and do not emit as much radiation, so they go unnoticed but the discovery HR 6.819 is silent and invisible will provide clues to where these hidden black holes might be; If you are lucky enough to be in the southern hemisphere tonight, don't forget to look at the sky and try to locate the cosmic monster.
