The treasures hidden at the bottom of the sea, lost cities, sunken ships, chests full of jewels come to mind, but in the Netherlands they have found something much stranger, they found it inside a sunken ship near the island of Texel located more than 100 kilometers from Amsterdam.
The merchant ship wrecked around 1650 and was all but forgotten until a team of divers discovered it in 2014, finding a silk gown in astonishingly good condition, plus another silver dress, book covers, and 19th-century women's toiletries. XVII.
The objects found are now displayed at the Museum Kaap Skil in Texel, the team of researchers has not yet been able to discover the name of the ship, nor the identity of the people who traveled in it, but they have calculated that both dresses were about 30 years old. when they went down with the ship the silk garment had a wider waist and was possibly for an older woman, while the silver dress may have been a wedding dress which may mean they belonged to different people.
At the moment three hypotheses are considered, the first supposes that the dresses belonged to a theater company that fled from England; the second hypothesis, according to the investigation of a historian from the University of Oxford, says that the suits could belong to the late wife of an ambassador and were transported to England from Constantinople; the third possibility is that the objects belonged to a wealthy family from Eastern Europe who were escaping from the 30 Years War.
Experts hope to carry out further investigations on the ship to find more objects and reveal the history of this curious shipwreck.
