The Walt Disney Company showed a lightsaber that slides evenly out of the handle and, contrary to previous versions of souvenir lightsabers, actually looks pretty much the same as the weapon in the Star Wars movies and TV series.
Star Wars is one of the world's most popular film franchises, and The Walt Disney Company also produces a large number of toys, including souvenir lightsabers.
Usually, the lightsabers are made in the form of a permanently protruding translucent tube with switched on illumination and do not look very much like weapons from films.
Back in early April, Disney announced that it would actually make a lightsaber that looks like the “real” thing.
Now the company has released a commercial for the Galactic Starcruiser, which shows the lightsaber in action.
Judging by the video, the new lightsaber is really completely hidden in the handle, and when turned on, it evenly extends to its full length.
No details were given, but it can be assumed that uses a LED strip with a flexible substrate and a diffuser.
However, this may not be the final version of the sword, the division of Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development continues to work on a new version of the lightsaber.
The toy is due to go on sale in 2022, concurrently with the opening of the Galactic Starcruiser hotel, the price of the new lightsaber has yet to be announced.
