Coffee is a wonderful source for antioxidants and the caffeine content helps perk me up in the morning. Research has shown that coffee helps gut health in several ways, and can be a great help to overall health.

Scientists have been studying microbiome gut health and have been tracking specific bacteria which support gut health overall. A recent large study found that those who drank coffee had 4-5x more production of a bacteria called L. asaccharolyticus that is particularly positively linked with guy health. The study was taken from a sample of tens of thousands of participants and is the most recent in a string of studies showing the benefits of coffee consumption.

Coffee is rich in antioxidants and has also been shown to support organ health and is linked with support of liver health. Caffeine can also support organ health by causing certain organs to "flutter" and release harmful metabolizing substances including those found when the liver breaks down alcohol.

Bacteria consume coffee in the guts and produce compounds such as quinic acid that has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic health issues. The bacteria L. asaccharolyticus releases hippurate as it consumes coffee which has also been shown to be beneficial for gut health in general. I am a lifelong coffee drinker, and will continue to do so.
