The Soviet Union looked at Venus during their heyday, and was convinced that life existed in the clouds above the hellish planet.
Venus is a particularly nightmarish example of the Greenhouse Effect, with a sulfuric acid rich atmosphere. We have been looking for life on Europa and Mars, but Venus was not highly-speculated as being home to life in our solar system. Clouds of phosphine, an indication of life in the clouds high above Venus, have been found which points to life existing there.
Venus has been overlooked as a planet where life could have existed or may have been a fertile place for life. Signs of life in the clouds above Venus may indicate bacterial life thrives there to this day. Periodic gas clouds released high above the planet are intriguing, and new missions to Venus are being planned.
It is worth it to go to the high cloud shelf of Venus and take samples there. Phosphine is a good indicator of life, as it is the source of this chemical.
