Hello! Today I would like to share a review on my favourite book: "Pollyanna" by Eleanor Porter.
This article may look similar to the other one uploaded by me, but here I've changed the context to avoid repeat content, which is not allowed on Steemit.
Although the book is more read among teenagers, I highly recommend it (and it's sequel) to older readers. In my opinion, it isn't just a comfort novel - it's a very heartfelt story.
At the beginning of the book, the author introduces us Pollyanna. The name was given by her mother, who died soon after the girl was born, and our protagonist was left with her father. He was a priest and from childhood grew sincere faith, love for light, gratitude and sensitivity in his daughter.
The family, however, was very poor. Pollyanna and her father often ate in a local charity canteen, the girl had very few clothes.
Surprisingly for an average person, there wasn't a thing in life that Pollyanna didn't thank for. She called this approach to life: "a game of joy." Once, as a holiday gift from a charitable foundation, Pollyanna received... crutches, and said:
"- Be glad that these crutches... are not needed!"
Of course, staying positive and grateful all the time is always a big challenge:
"...like when dad goes to Heaven, and there is no one left in life, except Women's Aid."
However, having a strong personality, Pollyanna not only rejoices herself, but also brightens the lives of those around her. She drastically changes the life of her aunt and manages to discover a family secret...
Although the girl became very ill, Pollyanna found the strength to spread light again.
This is a story about faith, gratitude, and our soul. As for an Orthodox Christian, it has even influenced my spiritual path, convincing me that gratitude is a very important characteristic. I advise everyone to read this book.
Thank you for the attention!
