Vicia villosa, simply called "Vicia", is a plant of the Family FABACEAE (LEGUMINOSAE), Subfamily PAPILIONOIDAE, which is used as a cover crop in planting lots that will overwinter without a production crop, such as Wheat for example (due to crop rotation in agronomic management).
By covering the soil surface with its indeterminate ramifications, it does not allow summer weeds to appear, and the lot is kept clean of them, in addition to being a legume, the formation of radical nodules generates nitrogen fixation in the soil, excellent for being used by the next cash crop to be grown in that batch.
