This beautiful highland is blessed with grassland, good soil water,
and of course, a fertile ground for agricultural purposes.
The Mambilla Plateau is about 5,000 ft above sea level.
It is the most elevated upland in Nigeria. One amazing fact about this plateau is that it is devoid of insects, also, it maintains a temperate climate like that of a tropical region.
The Mambilla Plateau is situated in the North-East of Nigeria, in Taraba.
The Chappal Waddi Mountain, considered as the highest point in Nigeria and probably in West Africa is situated on this plateau (up to 7,936 ft high, approximately 2.47km above sea level).
At the top of Chappal mountain is a thawing breeze blowing across the plateau, unlike the hot temperature experienced at the base of the plateau, just as the saying goes.. "the higher you go, the cooler it becomes"
The Plateau habits both people of Nigeria and Cameroon on different ecological delineations.
There is also a huge damn which contributes to the hydrological energy source to Nigeria's electricity generation.
The mambilla plateau is not only a tourist attraction to Taraba State but to Nigeria and even the entire West Africa.
The plateau is simply a wonder.
I don't know how safe it is to visit Taraba State now because of the rising spate insurgency in the area recently.
But when next you manage to see yourself in Taraba, give it a try to visit the Mambilla Plateau.
