The popular onoto in Venezuela and in other Latin American countries is called bija or bixa or bixa orellana in Colombia, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, axiote or achiote or achote in Mexico and Peru, and urucú or pumacoa in Brazil, it is the seed that comes from the fruit of the achiote tree native to the Amazon.
