It’s native to much of South America, Central America, the West Indies, and Mexico which is also naturalized in the southeastern United States (Florida, Texas, Louisiana & South Carolina), much of Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia & Oceania. Canna can be used to treat menstrual pains. The root can be used to treat gonorrhea and amenorrhoea. In Nigeria, people turn the root into a powder and ingest it to treat diarrhea and dysentery.
