Hello friends, today it is a pleasure for me to be in this final stage of the art contest "DraftCrearte Art Contests", for this special appointment we have to draw and interpret a work by the great painter "Salvador Dali", known as "The persistence of memory "the first thing I did was to make a preliminary study of the components of the work, when we see drawings by this painter, we see that his art is of surrealism tendencies, in his works we can see many scenes, characters and objects from many points of sight, in this work I observe many components that reflect the life of man with respect to time, below I will present you in several parts, my study on this wonderful work and its multiple meanings, a thanks to @crearte, for opening these spaces for art.

Paso 1
I make the sketch in graphite pencil, with the initials Hb-2 I wanted to give a monochromatic style to my personal interpretation of this work.
Paso 2

With the technique of hatching, the textures of the rough surface of the statue that integrate into the drawing are applied, I am giving soft layers, trying to bring a uniform pattern, with very small linear strokes I am filling in the layers.
The pencils (H) have a strong graphite, it means that the greater the number, the less the intensity of darkness will be.
The pencils (B9) have a denser graphite, it means that the higher the number, the darker it will be.
The pencils (HB) and (F) are intermediate in intensity and darkness, these are used to make sketches and sketches.
To make drawings that have a correct symmetry, where perspectives and volumes are reflected, you always have to do a study prior to the sketch, calculate the sketches properly, identify the elements that are going to be drawn, have control of each space that is left. to draw, dedicate the necessary time to each sector that is going to work, patience is essential in this type of art but it is a great satisfaction to work with this technique, the drawings made in chiaroscuro are very artistic and avant-garde, after you do your first works you will get hooked on this wonderful technique of visual art.
In the original work, observe a natural and open landscape, you can see the sea and some coastal mountains where there are reflections in the water of the cliffs, then we see a table with reflections, a dry tree where a clock is lying, there is a surface flat where there are two clocks with malleable appearances, bone like melted, in one a fly is observed and in the other there are ants, then on the surface we see a being with a strange appearance, you can see a resemblance to a human being, who is lying down and asleep, is wrapped in another clock that covers him, as we know this painter is surrealist and his works have those amorphous components, which leave messages, this work is like a dream scene from a dream, that you have to look for the meaning.
In order to understand this work I had to disassemble it, look for each component and give it a meaning, I wanted to make my own work of art with my style and explain it from my visual perspective, let's start with the main background of the work, Salvador Dalí presents us in the background a landscape that corresponds to some coastal cliffs in Catalonia, a close-up view of his house, which the painter integrated into this work, to make it more personal from his own life experience.
wanted to recreate this scene by creating my own coastal cliff with reflections in the sea, as I am working in chiaroscuro, I wanted to give dark and strong shades to the reflection of the mountain, the intention is to make my own work with respect to what I am perceiving in the work of the master Dali.
We observe a table, a dry tree where a malleable clock is lying on its dry branch, here the artist wants to tell us is that the clocks, which melt, represent the time that passes in a different way, from that perceived by the human being, here You do not see the minutes and seconds, it is a way of seeing the past time as something that will never return, it is like a dead time, making allegory to the dry tree that holds the clock
I made a more branched tree and with that tendency to be an old and dry tree.
We can find two clocks on the flat surface, one of them is deformed and its shape is malleable, it has a defined time (5 and 55 minutes), but we see a fly that is close to the number 12, this has an allegorical meaning with the death, we can think that the artist tells us that life passes quickly when we waste our time, when we reach 12 o'clock on the clock death will arrive, we observe that there is another clock but it is turned upside down, there are ants on its surface, the teacher Dalí He had a phobia of ants and always referred to this insect with putrefaction, here we see again the message of death.
The central figure of this work is a being with human characteristics who is lying down, has his eyes closed, as if he were asleep, there is a clock with a malleable and deformed appearance that covers this character, the painter Salvador Dalí, expressed the following: sleeping too many hours a day, was a negative practice for a human, the simple fact of wasting 30% of life sleeping, was inconceivable for this artist, this character slept 3 to 4 hours a day, at intervals of time, here in his work we can see that the character is wrapped by a clock, I mean that I can deduce that it is an allegorical message, at the loss of valuable time when we are asleep, I also see that it is a message to humanity, because we are living a reality where Life is not enjoyed or appreciated in all its splendor, we simply live a life that passes and the vast majority of humanity is asleep, that is, a large part of humanity is ignorant to have the miracle of life in his hands, we do not enjoy the great wonders that we have within our reach, because we have not awakened, there are those who think that this being is simply an artist's self-portrait, but I do not share that point of view, it is known that Dalí, was influenced by some theories of many characters of the time, who studied the human mind and the mysteries of dreams, such as the creator of the psychoanalyst "Simon Freud", who said "The dream is the path that leads to the unconscious", but Those are opinions of people who give their different points of view, the great secret of the artist is not to reveal, the true meaning of this great masterpiece, if he had done it, it would have lost its magic, it is better to keep dreaming when contemplating it and continue in the search for its true message, that only the great Salvador Dalí knew.
When I knew that I had to interpret this work in a drawing, I had to do it with my own vision of it, it would be somewhat easy to draw it the same, without leaving the original parameters, but that is not what the contest is about, that is why I wanted to create my own own vision of this character who is asleep, many ideas and they passed through my mind, until I reached this result, a character who is an old statue and has his eyes closed, that is, he is asleep, next to him is a clock, you can see the old and worn mechanism of the clock, making allegory of a life lost by the passing of time.
