Greetings everyone,
I hope you all are well. Today I am going to share with you some pictures of beautiful Vesak Lanterns. I told you earlier about our vesak festival. So for this vesak, these beautiful vesak lanterns are created. Buddhists celebrate the vesak festival for three to seven consecutive days from the day of vesak full moon.
So yesterday was the third day of Vesak festival. That means Vesak full moon was on 5th of May. It was then that we went to Asapu to perform the sil. I have also published a "Diary game" article referring to it back then. Yesterday I went to see vesak lanterns with my family members. Not only us, as I said earlier, during vesak, almost everyone go to visit vesak lanterns and thorans.
These beautiful lanterns were made by the people working in the Boossa Army and Navy. Also there were beautiful lanterns not only in Boossa but also in Galle. Those lanterns were made by the policemen working in the police jurisdictions in Galle area. As always, this time also for vesak, the army people had made beautiful lanterns. They create these lanterns every year for Vesak. Such beautiful vesak lanterns are seen in every part of our country during the vesak week.
These lanterns are displayed at night. Because these look beautiful only when the bulbs are lit at night. Therefore, lanterns are lit at around 6.30 pm. Walking at night during the Vesak week is a very beautiful experience. Because the surroundings are very beautiful during that week. Beautiful Vesak baskets and decorations are everywhere.
You can see how beautiful these vesak lanterns are. Here are pictures of 15 different beautiful vesak lanterns. We saw more than 20 vesak lanterns yesterday.
Now I will tell you what these vesak lanterns are made of. Most of the vesak lanterns here are made using old sacks, sack strings and ropes. Also, by using vesak pappers, cardboard, scrap metal and other scrap materials.
It can be seen how creatively and patiently these have been made. Creating such Vesak lanterns is not a task to be done in a day or two. It will take about a month or two. I would like to thank the army soldiers and police officers for creating such beautiful vesak lanterns to display for the public.
And almost every one of these lanterns was spinning around. It is not clearly visible in the pictures, so I will add two videos below so you can see it.
