Today is the first of May. Today is International Labor Day. Happy May Day to all working people. The 136th Labor Day is being celebrated this year for the hardworking working people. For this celebration, May Day parades, meetings, television programs and various events are held. Actually Labor Day was for the workers but nowadays it has become not Labor Day but politicians day.
It seems that politicians have used this Labor Day to achieve their goals. They gather their party members and hold demonstrations and meetings on May Day. It is not very appropriate to use the day reserved for workers for political purposes. Only the innocent people are being crushed from all sides.
In the past, the working people held agitations and struggles and fought to win their rights without even caring about their lives. The cause of this Labor Day was the struggle carried out by a group of workers in America in the year 1886. There, a group of workers have lost their lives and another group has been arrested. The aim of this struggle was that the workers should be given an 8-hour working shift. Somehow, as a result of this struggle, May 1st became Labor Day and the working hours became 8 hours.
Although the first day of May or Labor Day is a holiday in many countries, it became a holiday in our country in 1956. So today this day is a public holiday in our country, but in some private workplaces, there is no holiday even on Labor Day for those who work there. This is a matter of regret.
Also, children below the age of 18 are not considered as workers. The law prohibits the employment of school-age children as servants in our country and those who employ such children as servants may be punished. Labor Day is reserved for discussing such issues and workers' problems, not for politicians to achieve their goals.
