#Introduction
Unen was one girl in a million. Everything about her was sophisticated. She was so full of herself with a tendency to be radically disposed. An imperious girl of aching beauty, Unen saw herself above the society. She believed in having her ways in every situation she found herself. She cared little about her future only to realize her mistakes later through the knocks of life.
People feared and loved her. Those who loathed her said she was abrasive, snobbish, consuming and vain. Those who admired her said she was generous, considerate and kind. Beneath her outrageous and radical disposition, was hidden a virtue of love and charity.
Born into a wealthy family of six children, Unen has always wanted to live an independent life. Being the first child and daughter her parents loved and cherished her. The parents gave her the pet names of “Angel,” Heavenly, Daddy’s Wealth, Womb Opener.” In the tradition and custom of the people of Itie Inem the first daughter was regarded and acknowledged as the Queen of the family. Everything about her and for her was special.
Imoh, Unen’s father, was a middle-class person. But fortune smiled on him to the extent that his wealth bestowed on him an enviable status of power and recognition. His wife Etinwan was a humble, obedient and dutiful house wife. She engaged in trading business which she handled diligently. Her popularity went beyond her immediate community. She was in whole-sale trade attracting customers from far and near. Her commodity or articles of trade were salt, crayfish, and local melon.
Her husband IMOH took to palm produce business. A dealer in Palm oil and kernels, it was a capital intensive and time-consuming business. It was a lucrative trade too which plunged him into enormous wealth. Imoh had very busy schedules which his loving and devoted wife Etinwan understood. Etinwan was equal to the task. She virtually shouldered the responsibilities and affairs of the home in the absence of her husband. This mutual love and understanding between husband and wife, laid a solid foundation for parental care and good up-bringing of their children. It also accounted for their success in their business. Both were respected and loved by the people. People in the community saw them as a model family in character and duty.
Unen’s education and that of her siblings suffered no defects. Their parents sent them to the best schools in town. Unen on her path was exceptionally brilliant. She completed her secondary school education in flying colours. But surprisingly, she detested advancing her education in tertiary institution either in the university or polytechnic. Her parents’ persuasions in this direction fell on deaf ears. Finally, her father called her and asked to know what she would like to do for a living. Unen opted for business. “What type of business?” asked the father. “Car selling,” she replied.
Her father decided to support and encouraged her to actualize her dreams. He doled out enough money for her to start. Unen prospered in her dream business. She sold exotic and modern cars. Her clients were top-class politicians, and the high class in society including captains of industry. Shortly, Unen was well established and she had no regrets in her choice to be independent and self-employed. Meanwhile, her three brothers and two sisters were in various higher institutions pursuing their careers. That alone gave the parents the consolation they needed.
Unen’s car business took her around the world. She literally globe-trotted the universe made contacts and friends around the world. A high society girl of a sort, Unen was swimming in wealth and enjoying herself to the full. In time, she expanded her business to include women apparels and trinkets. Her boutique was classic and unique. High quality designs and fabrics adorn her collections. Unen was not only self-employed but had become an employer of labour. Her car and fashion businesses expanded with subsidiaries in major cities. Unen’s business boomed and boomed! Her dividends in financial returns rose astronomically even to her surprise. She was swimming and flowing in money. But suddenly, disaster struck.
Global recession on world economy developed uncontrollable claws which suffocated the world economic system. Unen’s car and fashion businesses plummeted and dwindled. Her income and earnings suffered irretrievable downturn. Shocked and disappointed, she folded up her businesses, paid up the workers the much she could and went back home to her parents.
Meanwhile her father was gone. He had died after a brief illness. Her mother, a helpless widow, was to receive Unen back into the family homestead.
From her reckoning, Unen believed she had lost everything in life. No father, no marriage, no family of her own, no business, no wealth. Tormented in self-pity, she decided to pick-up the pieces of her life by having a chat and seeking advice from her church pastor. Pastor Owoabasi Paul of Turnaround Church of the World –TCW– was on hand and ever willing to save souls.
That dialogue with the pastor resulted in Unen’s new life as a servant serving in the House of the Lord.
