Why are we paying taxes in the USA?

We'd have to claim multiple dependants on our W4 withholding tax forms. Our employers report our income. The IRS would contact us and make us prove we have those dependants. If we don't they will bill us. If we don't pay they will dock our paychecks. We'd have to prove we work as clergy to be tax exempt and not eventually get audited or have our paychecks docked. When people can do prison time for not paying child support imagine the time you can do for not paying taxes. I argue with my brother about this all the time. He thinks taxes are strictly voluntary and no one has to pay them. I told him if that were true then Al Capone and Wesley Snipes would not have done prison time.
